I joke a lot about Clara being alive, but the truth is, she is alive. How could she not be? Her whole existence has been spent being loved and cherished by brilliant musicians. She’s absorbed so much art and love and passion that she’s alive, in her own important way.

Marta is confident, generally. She feels good about her looks and intelligence and talents. But she’s also a human being, and so she is scared. Scared she’s too shallow and frivolous to do anything real or be worthy of love. Scared she’ll end up like her mother, a bored high-society lady who spends all her time fussing about guest lists and table manners. And guilty, too, for being so scared when she has nothing material to worry about.
