Warnings: Not many. Mentions and descriptions of illness, mainly just fluff. Fictional science.
A/N: I know the science in this isn’t entirely accurate, mainly the effects of the serum Bucky received. I actually did the research on Steve, but that might not be entirely accurate, either. But it’s fiction, so it doesn’t really matter. This probably isn’t my greatest work but I thought the idea was cute. Feedback is welcome!
Dr. Abraham Erskine’s Super Soldier Serum was a scientific breakthrough. Steve Rogers - the man who was willing to bear its power- grew in size, strength, and heart. His resistance to disease and toxins makes him practically unstoppable; his healing factor adds to this.
Over the decades, HYDRA attempted to recreate Dr. Erskine’s serum. They had multiple failures, causing the death and destruction of many victims. But one man – James Buchanan Barnes – had fought and survived through the torturous transformation. While he didn’t receive any enhancements that could be seen with the human eye (minus the arm), he became faster, stronger, and more agile. The Winter Soldier became a ghost story and was soon feared by those who knew of him.
HYDRA’s serum wasn’t perfect; it wasn’t like the one given to Steve Rogers. Steve can’t get sick, or drunk, and he doesn’t even have to sleep but an hour a week if he so chooses.
Bucky is a different story.
Tissues littered the living room floor of their shared apartment along with half-drunk cups of coffee and empty bowls of soup. Bucky had gathered every blanket he could find and nested himself on the couch with his box of tissues and over-the-counter flu medicine. His nose was red, his head hurt, and every time he talked it felt as if he had swallowed sandpaper.
Pulling the blankets tighter around his shoulders, he watched the tv silently. The guy with an ugly Hawaiian shirt and goatee was about to win a ‘brand new car’. Their acting was so melodramatic that literally anyone could tell it was rigged.
Down the hall, the door to the apartment slammed shut, followed by curses and a heavy 'thump'.
Bucky sat up with a groan, the movement making his head pound. His feet shuffled along the cold, hardwood floor towards the kitchen. Leaning himself against the archway, still curled up in his thick duvet, he watched as Y/N sorted through at least eight bags of groceries.
“I could've helped you with that,” he mumbled, his voice rough from lack of use. A tickle in the back of his throat made him cough into his blanket-covered arm.
Y/N peeked over her shoulder and slowly took him in; his skin was pale, his hair a knotted mess, and there were still bags under his eyes, no matter how much sleep he got. He looked pitiful; who knew that all it took to bring an ex-Soviet assassin to his knees was the flu? But even though he felt like shit, he could still offer her a smile.
She shook her head, offering her own soft smile as she gently placed the back of her hand on his forehead. Her eyebrows drew together in concern. “What was your temperature?”
“109.”
“Jesus, Bucky,” she sighed, turning to the freezer to pull out an ice pack. She put it on his forehead with a pointed look and replaced her hand with his. He gladly accepted, but all he could do was grin; she's cute when she worries.
The first time his temperature shot up that high she was half a second away from dialing 9-1-1. Luckily, Bruce had reminded her just in time that Bucky isn't the average man.
He watched as she pulled different vegetables and spices from the bags, leaning to rub his dripping nose on the blanket. She's definitely going to kill him for that later.
“Can I help?”
“Hell no.”
“Why not?”
“Because you're sick.”
“So?”
He knew he was pushing her buttons, but sometimes he did it on purpose just to see her face scrunch up.
She watched him over her shoulder, her expression stern, eyebrows raised. “You're sick and you need to rest.”
“But I'm bored.”
With a sigh, she turned back towards him, annoyance obvious on her face. “You're a stubborn ass.”
“But I'm your stubborn ass.”
His grin grew as she smiled, her annoyance slowly fading away. She padded towards him, her hand gentle on his chest.
“Go get a shower and I'll make you some dinner.”
“Yes, ma'am.” He leaned towards her lips for a kiss, but was stopped short by her hand; right, he's sick. No kisses. Instead, he settled for lightly pecking the tips of her fingers. “I love you,” he whispered, watching her with a twinkle in his eye.
Her cheeks flushed pink and she gave him a goofy grin, gently shoving him towards the bathroom.

You'll Probably Believe Fake Science If It Comes With A Brain Image
“That "epidemic of reasoning" usually takes this form: when study subjects do activity A, brain area Z is active. In other studies, when subjects engage in thinking task B, brain area Z is active. Therefore, because brain area Z is active during activity A, activity A must cause thinking task B. ... This is an example of affirming the consequent, a fallacy where you make an if/then statement ("if it's raining, the streets are wet"), note that the "then" is true, and conclude that the "if" must be true, when in fact, you can only logically do the reverse. An active area of the brain is the "then" part of the argument. You can't use it to infer the "if."”
How accurate are the brain scan provided in this study? Are the authors of this study also affirming the consequent? #deep #inception
🤯 “A fake AI paper just boosted someone's H-index. No peer review. No verification. Just clicks, citations… and academic clout.”
That's the reality a recent experiment revealed—where generative AI was used to upload a fake academic paper on ResearchGate and inflate real citation metrics.

🧠The Science Cover-Up: Why the News is Failing You 📰
Welcome to The Disinfo Detox, where we cut through the noise to bring you the stories that matter.
In this episode, we’re exposing a dangerous problem: fake science and the scientific illiteracy of media makers. As courts debate Trump’s efforts to cut research funding and health officials warn about rising measles cases, misinformation is running rampant.
❌ Who’s to blame for the spread of bad science?
❌ How does media illiteracy fuel public confusion?
❌ And what can we do about it?
