Oghren was literally such a good warrior that he elevated his entire family. They married him to Branka already knowing she would be a Living Paragon. Oghren mattered to Orzammar.
The fact that he is as broken down and battered as we see him at the beginning of Origins - and the fact that even after all of that he finds the strength to start over - is so fucking harrowing and the writers fucking betrayed that shit with "lol alcoholic sad man very funny".
