I don't know if you remember this fella from Sierra Madre post, but he got his second life and raised some more details

Curtis Mallow is a NCR corporal, a future deserter of Nelson and participant in Elijah's plans

Curt didn't join the army of his own free will, he was a conscript, even before the First battle. With his friend, he was trained and then sent into battle

Unfortunately, the First battle didn't pass without a trace for him. A grenade fragment killed his friend, and Curt, out of exceptional luck, wasn't hit critically enough to kill, but enough to leave a scar all over his face

There's no need to talk about psychological trauma: the obvious symptoms of PTSD and endless fear have been haunting Curt for years. The world seems colorless, and more and more it seems to him that the universe is laughing at him, allowing him to live and survive

And yet, he stayed in the army, simply because he didn't know what else to do. The world was no longer the same, and neither was his home. The limit of his patience and fear was Nelson. Then he decided to run as far as possible
