Day 27\Onion
The Brazen Angels, a fanon Blood Angels successor chapter
“For Sanguinius and Diolus! Glory! GLORY!”
Chapter Founding and History
The Brazen Angels are a Successor Chapter of the Blood Angels, created during an unknown Founding in late M40 or early M41, most likely the 25th Founding, though precise records do not exist. They are known for their courage, honor and zeal in battle, as well as their skill in siege warfare and urban combat. They wear bronze-colored armor with black trim and a red blood drop on their left shoulder pad. Their Chapter symbol is a winged sword with a halo.
The Brazen Angels trace their origins to a group of Blood Angels veterans who were sent to reinforce the Imperial world of Tralus during a massive Ork invasion. The Blood Angels fought valiantly against the greenskin horde, but were outnumbered and outmatched. They made their last stand at the capital city of Tralux, where they barricaded themselves in the ancient citadel of Saint Diolus, a revered martyr of the Imperial Creed.
The Blood Angels held out for 12 weeks, enduring constant assaults from the Orks and their crude siege engines. They inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy, but their own numbers dwindled rapidly. They knew they had no hope of survival, but they refused to surrender or flee. They vowed to sell their lives dearly and honor the memory of Sanguinius and Diolus.
Their heroic resistance inspired the people of Tralus, who rallied behind them and formed a militia to fight alongside them. The Blood Angels welcomed their human allies, and taught them some of their combat techniques and tactics. Together, they managed to repel several Ork attacks, and even launched some counter-strikes to sabotage the enemy’s war machines.
Eventually, the Orks grew frustrated and decided to unleash their ultimate weapon: a gargantuan Squiggoth that they had captured and fitted with crude armor and guns. The beast was unleashed on the citadel, crushing everything in its path. The Blood Angels and the militia prepared for their final battle, knowing they had no chance against such a monstrous foe.
However, as the Squiggoth approached the citadel gates, a thunderous roar echoed in the sky. A fleet of Imperial ships had arrived in orbit, responding to the distress signal that the Blood Angels had sent before they were cut off. The ships launched a barrage of orbital strikes on the Ork positions, causing massive explosions and carnage. The Squiggoth was hit by several blasts, and collapsed in a heap of flesh and metal.
The Blood Angels and the militia cheered as they saw their salvation. They quickly gathered their remaining forces and launched a final assault on the Ork lines, breaking through their defenses and slaughtering them with righteous fury. The Orks were caught off guard by the sudden turn of events, and soon fled in panic.
The Imperial fleet sent down drop pods and landing craft to secure the planet and evacuate the survivors. The Blood Angels were hailed as heroes by the people of Tralus, who thanked them for their sacrifice and bravery. The Blood Angels thanked them in return, and praised them for their courage and faith.
Among the survivors was a young man named Diolus Tralux, named for Saint Diolus, who was the son of the governor of Tralus. He had joined the militia when he saw his father killed by an Ork warboss, and had fought alongside the Blood Angels ever since. He had shown great skill and valor in battle, earning the respect and admiration of his human comrades and his Astartes mentors.
The Blood Angels were impressed by Diolus Tralux, and saw in him a potential recruit for their Chapter. They offered him a place among their ranks, which he accepted without hesitation. He underwent the rigorous trials and implantation process to become a Space Marine, and proved himself worthy of wearing the blood-red armor of his new brothers.
Diolus Tralux rose quickly through the ranks of the Blood Angels, becoming a Sergeant, then a Captain, then a Chaplain. He was renowned for his leadership, charisma and devotion to Sanguinius and the Emperor. He also maintained a close bond with his home world of Tralus, which he visited regularly to offer his guidance and support.
During one such visit, Diolus Tralux received a message from his former Chapter Master, who informed him that he had been chosen to lead a new Successor Chapter of the Blood Angels. The High Lords of Terra had decreed that a new Founding was needed to bolster the Imperium’s defenses against its many enemies.
The Blood Angels had been granted the right to create a new Successor Chapter from their gene-seed, and they had chosen Diolus Tralux to be its first Chapter Master. They also offered him the choice of a homeworld for his new Chapter, and he chose Tralus, the world where he had been born and where he had fought his first battle.
Diolus Tralux named his new Chapter the Brazen Angels, in honor of the bronze-colored citadel of Saint Diolus where he and his brothers had made their stand. He also adopted the winged sword with a halo as his Chapter symbol, as a tribute to both Sanguinius and Saint Diolus. He vowed to uphold the legacy of both martyrs, and to defend the Imperium with courage and honor.
The Brazen Angels soon established their Fortress-Monastery on Tralus, in the rebuilt citadel of Saint Diolus. They also began recruiting new initiates from the population of Tralus, as well as from other nearby worlds that they protected. They forged strong bonds with the people of their domain, and became respected and revered by them.
The Brazen Angels also developed their own combat doctrine, based on their experience in siege warfare and urban combat. They specialized in assaulting fortified positions, breaking through enemy defenses with overwhelming force and precision. They also excelled in defending their own bastions, using their skill and cunning to repel any invaders.
The Brazen Angels became renowned for their siege engines, which they built and maintained with great care and pride. They favored heavy weapons such as siege drills, melta guns, thunder hammers and breaching shields. They also used specialized vehicles such as Vindicators, Land Raiders and Storm Eagles to support their assaults.
The Brazen Angels were often called upon to aid other Imperial forces in breaking enemy sieges or laying siege to enemy strongholds. They fought alongside many other Chapters of Space Marines, as well as Imperial Guard regiments, Adeptus Mechanicus cohorts and Adepta Sororitas orders. They earned a reputation for being loyal, brave and honorable allies, and even earned the lasting respect of their former rivals, the Imperial Fists and many of the other sons of Dorn.
However, the Brazen Angels also suffered from the same curse that afflicted all Blood Angels and their Successors: the Flaw. The genetic defect that caused them to succumb to the Red Thirst and the Black Rage. The Brazen Angels tried to resist these urges, but they often found themselves giving in to their bloodlust in battle.
The Brazen Angels were particularly vulnerable to the Red Thirst, which made them crave the blood of their enemies. They often indulged in this thirst after breaking through enemy lines, slaughtering their foes with savage glee. They also sometimes drank the blood of their fallen allies, believing it to be a way of honoring them.
However, the Brazen Angels were less prone to the Black Rage, which made them relive the death of Sanguinius. However, when they did fall to this madness, they became even more ferocious and reckless than normal. They would charge headlong into enemy fire, heedless of danger or strategy. They would also attack anyone who tried to restrain them, friend or foe.
The Brazen Angels tried to hide their Flaw from outsiders, fearing that they would be shunned or condemned by them. They also tried to control their Flaw with discipline and faith, following the teachings of Sanguinius and Saint Diolus. They formed a special unit called the Crimson Revenants, composed of those who had succumbed to either aspect of the Flaw. These warriors were kept under close watch by Chaplains and Librarians, who tried to guide them back to sanity or give them a glorious death.
Despite their Flaw, the Brazen Angels remained loyal servants of the Emperor and Sanguinius. They fought many battles in His name, against many foes. They faced Orks, Eldar, Tyranids, Necrons and Chaos. They fought in numerous wars and crusades across the galaxy, and earned countless honors and accolades for their deeds.
One of their most notable achievements was during the Siege of Saloruta, where they helped defend an Imperial world against a massive Chaos invasion led by Abaddon the Despoiler himself. The Brazen Angels held the line against overwhelming odds, using their siege expertise to fortify their positions and vex and repel wave after wave of Chaos attackers.
They also launched daring counter-attacks against key enemy targets, such as daemon engines, warp gates and sorcerers. They managed to destroy several of these threats, slowing down the enemy advance and buying time for the Imperial forces to regroup and counter-attack. The Brazen Angels were instrumental in holding the Bargesea Citadel, a massive fortress that guarded the only stable warp gate on the planet. They fought alongside the Imperial Fists, their ancient rivals and allies, and together they managed to repel Abaddon’s elite Terminators and Daemons.
The siege lasted for months, until the Imperium finally managed to break the Chaos blockade and send reinforcements. The Brazen Angels joined the final assault on Abaddon’s flagship, the Planet Killer, and boarded it with their Storm Eagles. They fought their way to the bridge, where they confronted Abaddon himself.
Diolus Tralux led his Chapter in a furious charge against the Warmaster of Chaos, wielding his power sword and storm shield. He challenged Abaddon to a duel, invoking the memory of Sanguinius and Horus. Abaddon accepted, and the two clashed in a titanic struggle.
The Veteran Chapter Master fought with skill and courage, but mighty and skilled as he was, he was ultimately no match for Abaddon’s strength and sorcery, and even less for Abaddon's treacherous methods. Abaddon struck him down with his daemon sword Drach’nyen, wounding Diolus mortally. He then lifted him up by his neck, mocking him, his Chapter, and the memory of his Primarch.
However, before Abaddon could deliver the killing blow, he was distracted by a sudden explosion -- the Imperial forces had planted melta bombs on the Planet Killer’s warp core, and detonated them. The ship began to shake and crumble, as reality tore apart around it.
Abaddon cursed, and threw Diolus aside, making his way to an escape pod. He vowed to one day return and finish what he had started. Diolus Tralux lay dying on the floor, surrounded by his fallen brothers. He prayed to Sanguinius and the Emperor, asking for their forgiveness and mercy for his weakness and his inability to defeat Abaddon.
He was then approached by a figure clad in golden armor: a Sanguinary Guard of the Blood Angels. The angelic warrior knelt beside him, and told him that he had done well. He said that he was proud of him and his Chapter, and that they had honored Sanguinius with their deeds.
He then offered him a vial of blood, saying that it was a gift from their Primarch. He said that it would ease his pain and grant him peace. He also said that it would ensure that his Chapter would survive and prosper.
Diolus Tralux accepted the vial, and drank its contents. He felt a surge of warmth and light fill his body, as his wounds healed and his strength returned. He looked at the Sanguinary Guard with awe and gratitude, wondering if he was a vision or a miracle.
The Sanguinary Guard smiled, and helped him up. He told the Chapter Master that they had to leave quickly, before the ship exploded, explaining that he had a Storm Eagle waiting for them outside. He said that he would take him back to Tralus, where he would be welcomed as a hero.
The Sanguinary Guard then vowed that he would also help Diolus Tralux rebuild his Chapter, using the blood of Sanguinius that he had given him, telling the old marine that it was a rare and precious substance, that could create new Space Marines from ordinary humans. He said that it was also a cure for the Flaw, that could free him from his curse.
The angelic figure claimed that he had been entrusted with this blood by Sanguinius himself, before he died on Terra, and that he had been waiting for centuries for someone worthy of receiving it. He had found that someone in Diolus Tralux.
The Guard's name was Azkaellon, the legendary first captain of the Blood Angels, and the founder and leader of the Sanguinary Guard. He said that he was also Diolus Tralux’s brother, for now they shared the same blood: the blood of Sanguinius.
He said that they were both sons of the Angel, and heirs to his legacy. He said that they were both Brazen Angels, for they had faced death with courage and honor. He honored Diolus, telling him that they were both champions of the Imperium, and defenders of humanity.
He then said that they were both Blood Angels, and together they would make their father proud.
Chapter Master, Diolus Tralux
Diolus Tralux has been the Chapter Master of the Brazen Angels for over 900 standard years. He is one of the oldest and most venerable Space Marines in the Imperium, thanks to the blood of Sanguinius that sustains him. He has led his Chapter through countless battles and wars, and has earned the respect and admiration of many allies and enemies alike. He is a wise and benevolent leader, who cares deeply for his brothers and his people. He is also a fierce and fearless warrior, who never shies away from a challenge or a threat. He is the heart and soul of the Brazen Angels, and they would follow him to the ends of the galaxy and beyond.
Tralux is a noble and charismatic personality, who inspires loyalty and devotion in his followers. He is a compassionate and generous soul, who treats his brothers and his people with kindness and respect. He is also a devout and faithful servant of the Emperor and Sanguinius, who follows their teachings and honors their memory. He is a wise and prudent leader, who makes sound decisions and plans for the future of his Chapter and his domain. He is also a courageous and honorable warrior, who fights with skill and fury, but never loses his sense of justice and mercy. He is a paragon of what a Space Marine should be, and a worthy successor of his Primarch.
Diolus Tralux is a handsome and majestic figure, who bears a striking resemblance to Sanguinius. He has long, golden hair that falls over his shoulders, and piercing blue eyes that shine with intelligence and compassion. He has fair skin that is unblemished by scars or signs of age, thanks to the blood of Sanguinius that rejuvenates him. He has a strong and muscular physique, enhanced by his power armor and gene-seed. He wears a suit of ornate bronze-colored armor, decorated with black trim and red blood drops. He also wears a cloak of white feathers, symbolizing his angelic heritage. He carries a power sword and a storm shield as his weapons of choice, as well as a bolt pistol and an Astartes Combat Knife as backups. He wears a winged sword with a halo as his Chapter symbol on his chest plate, as well as the personal heraldry of Sanguinius on his right shoulder pad. He is an awe-inspiring sight to behold, both on and off the battlefield.
Diolus and Dante
Due to their long lives lived in service to the legacy of Sanguinius, Diolus Tralux has forged a long standing relationship with Lord Commander Dante of the Blood Angels. Their kinship and comradery is one cast from deep mutual respect and admiration. Diolus Tralux considers Dante to be his elder brother and mentor, who has taught him much about the history and traditions of their lineage. He also sees him as a hero and a living legend, who has led the Blood Angels through countless trials and tribulations. He values his wisdom and guidance, and often seeks his counsel on matters of importance.
Dante, in turn, regards Diolus Tralux as one of his most trusted and loyal allies, who has proven himself time and again as a capable and honourable leader. He also sees him as a friend and a confidant, who shares his vision and goals for the Imperium. He appreciates his courage and devotion, and often praises his deeds and achievements.
The two Chapter Masters have fought alongside each other on many occasions, forming a formidable partnership on the battlefield. They have also supported each other in times of need, offering aid and comfort when necessary. They have a strong bond of brotherhood and friendship, forged by blood and faith.
Diolus Tralux is one of the few Space Marines who knows Dante’s true age and condition, as well as his secret desire to die in battle. He respects Dante’s wishes, but also hopes that he will live long enough to see the return of their primarch Sanguinius, believing that the venerable Lord Commander deserves more than anyone to finally witness that glorious day, and to receive his father’s blessing.
Combat Strength and Codex Divergence
The Brazen Angels’ current combat strength is estimated to be around 1,200 Space Marines, including Primaris Space Marines. They have a large and diverse fleet of warships and vehicles, as well as a vast arsenal of weapons and equipment. They also have a number of allies and auxiliaries, such as the Imperial Guard regiments and Adeptus Mechanicus cohorts that serve under their command.
The Brazen Angels’ battle cry is “For Sanguinius and Diolus! Glory! GLORY!” They shout this cry with fervor and passion, as they charge into battle with their wings of fire. They seek to honor their primarch and their founder, as well as to achieve glory for themselves and their Chapter. They are fearless and zealous warriors, who never give up or retreat.
The Brazen Angels are not a Codex Compliant Chapter, but rather a Codex Divergent Chapter. This means that they follow the spirit and the principles of the Codex Astartes, but they deviate from its strict rules and regulations in some ways. They do this to suit their own preferences, traditions and circumstances.
One of the main ways that the Brazen Angels deviate from the Codex Astartes is their combat strength. The Codex Astartes states that each Chapter should be composed of 1,000 Space Marines, divided into 10 companies of 100 each. However, the Brazen Angels have 1,200 Space Marines, divided into 12 companies of 100 each. They do this to increase their flexibility and versatility on the battlefield, as well as to honor the number twelve, which is sacred to them. The number twelve represents the Twelve Passions of Saint Diolus, and the twelve weeks of siege that they endured on Tralus.
Another way that the Brazen Angels deviate from the Codex Astartes is their organization and structure. The Codex Astartes outlines a standard organization for each company, such as the Veteran Company, the Battle Companies, the Reserve Companies and the Scout Company. However, the Brazen Angels have modified their organization to suit their combat specialty and doctrine. For example, they have a Siege Company instead of a Veteran Company, composed of their most skilled and experienced siege engineers and warriors. They also have a Fire Company instead of a Scout Company, composed of their most aggressive and bloodthirsty assault troops. They also have different names and roles for some of their officers and specialists, such as Siege Masters, Fire Lords and Storm Bringers.
The Brazen Angels also deviate from the Codex Astartes in their heraldry and markings. Whilst the Codex Astartes provides guidelines for how each Chapter should display its colors, symbols and insignia, the Brazen Angels largely disregard these guidelines in favor of their own unique style and system of heraldry, based on their history and culture. For example, they wear bronze-colored armor instead of red armor, to symbolize their connection to Tralus and Saint Diolus, as well as the Citadel where their story began. They also wear a red blood drop on their left shoulder pad instead of their right shoulder pad, to symbolize their loyalty to Sanguinius and their defiance of Chaos. They also use different company colors and squad markings than those prescribed by the Codex Astartes.
The Future
The future of the Brazen Angels is one of hope and glory. With the blood of Sanguinius flowing in their veins, they are able to create new Space Marines faster and easier than before. They are also able to greater resist the Flaw that plagued them for so long, and fight with renewed vigor and faith.
The Brazen Angels use their new strength to expand their domain and protect their allies. They forge new alliances with other Blood Angels Successors, such as the Flesh Tearers, the Blood Drinkers, the Lamenters, the Angels Numinous, and the Angels Penitent. They also maintain their friendship with the Imperial Fists, who respect them for their siege prowess and honor.
The Brazen Angels continue to fight against the enemies of the Imperium, especially Chaos. They have a special hatred for Abaddon and his Black Legion, who they consider their arch-nemesis. They vow to avenge their fallen brothers and their primarch, and to stop Abaddon’s plans to destroy the Imperium.
The Brazen Angels also seek to honor Sanguinius and Saint Diolus, by following their example of courage and nobility. They strive to be both warriors and artists, creating beautiful works of art and architecture in their Fortress-Monastery and on their homeworld. They also uphold the ideals of the Imperial Creed, spreading the word of the Emperor and Saint Diolus among the people they protect.
The Brazen Angels are a shining example of what a Space Marine Chapter can be: loyal, brave, honorable, noble and glorious. They are the sons of Sanguinius, the heirs of Diolus, and champions of the Imperium.
They are the Brazen Angels, and they will make their father proud.
FAN MADE CHAPTER.
Video version
Still hammering out this idea for a Space Marine chapter that I would like to get on the tabletop (if money and skill wasn’t a hassle). Though I find it to be this weird combination of fan made joke chapter (like the Angry Marines), and a more serious one (Like the rest of them). Even some of their conversation in my head goes something like this:
Captured Eldar: “You primitives have ruined this galaxy for the worst. But soon we shall make things right!”
Space Marine: “I’m sorry, but who was it that hate fucked an evil sex god into existence? Oh, that’s right, THE ELDAR!”
And it kind of degenerates from there.
