I don't think I'll ever understand the hardcore Ziva fans who aren't content with just making their displeasure at their favorite leaving known, but must attack others. Their negativity seems beyond normal in how they share their displeasure.
Some are deep into the Conspiracy Theory crowd. That their beloved Cote de Pablo was forced out. That it was a vast conspiracy headed up by one of the following:
Haters among the fanbase. (If we had had that power, to be frank, she either would've been better written and/or gone long ago. Of course, we also wouldn't have lost Paula Cassidy, Tony and Abby wouldn't have been dumbed down. Jen Shepard would've always been the kickass Director we saw in "Chimera". And certain dead people wouldn't keep making reappearances.)
One or more of the other actors, jealous of CdP's popularity and enormous talents. (She's a capable actress when given something decent to work with, but she definitely isn't Helen Mirren.)
CBS and/or the Showrunners. Again, jealousy or hatred of women. I haven't figured that one out as yet.
Any little thing that runs contrary to their view of the world is negated, attacked, ignored, threatened, bullied. They definitely weren't happy that the ratings didn't drop. They are hysterical about Michael Weatherly and Mark Harmon appearing on the cover of the next TV Guide magazine. And not in a good way.
It isn't limited to this fandom, I'm well aware of that, but this is the fandom I'm more connected to. I've seen a growing level of hatred and vulgarity and viciousness aimed at others in other fandoms, such as Sherlock.
No one is happy all the time about the show they love. I get that. I have complained when I think a show, even this show, is jumping the rails and getting a little too close to the proverbial shark. I joined into a protest over the death of Ianto Jones on Torchwood and sent lots and lots of coffee to the BBC in protest. But my notes with that coffee were polite and explained why I thought it was a mistake as well as how this could be remedied. This is science fiction, after all.
But when passing on that disgust or unhappiness, why share it with those who have no or little power to change it? Don't contact the crew with your hatred. Don't share with the actors your venom. And consider your contact with the showrunners, the network or entertainment writers. It doesn't help your cause if you spread your hatred and disgust in a manner that suggests a person having a psychotic break.
Protests only work when you haven't alienated the very people you need on your side.
Always remember that yours is not the only viewpoint, that some actresses have their own personal reasons that they don't want to share.
Be respectful to all. I may not agree with TIVA, but I have fandom friends who do. We agree to disagree and focus on what we both like about the show.
And, above all, remember that it is just a television series. If you don't like what is happening, you can turn it off. Or write fanfiction. After all, isn't that one of the reasons it was invented?
