~Fallout Vault Idea~
If I were out in charge of designing a Fallout vault, here’s how it’d work.
The vault itself is pretty normal. It’s fully equipped, and generally about as pleasant as a vault can be. What the residents don’t know going in is that it’s attached to a fully functional second vault: a vault of wolves. This wolf vault is entirely devoted to maintaining and caring for a large population of wolves. The wolves are well-fed and tended to by robotic caretakers, and about as happy as they can be under the circumstances.
On the second Friday of each month, about half a dozen wolves are corralled off to the side and allowed to get a little hungry. They are then released into the hallways of the human vault for 24 hours.
The human vault dwellers can try to fight the wolves if they want. Half a dozen wolves still aren’t actually going to stand much of a chance against a full vault, but the thing is- there’s always more. The wolf vault has backup wolves in cryo sleep, and vats of cloned wolf embryos ready to go. And the wolf releases are like clockwork: on the same day of every month, the wolves come out.
Eventually the human vault dwellers will give up fighting the wolves. They’re on a regular schedule, these are just normal wolves, it’s not worth the hassle to fight them when you can just lock yourself in your room for a day. So that’s what happens after a year or two: on Wolf Day, everyone just locks themselves in their rooms and watches tv until the wolves are gone.
This goes on for 20 years. At one point in year 20-something, the wolves are released on Thursday instead. After this, the wolves are back on the normal Friday schedule for at least another decade. But the Thursday Wolf Day goes down in vault history.
I think when the vault does open up eventually, the humans are shockingly well-adjusted. They’ll have developed a strong cultural attitude of “well if there’s a beast around, just leave it alone?” that serves them really well in the wasteland. I think having Wolf Day would also give structure and meaning to the passage of time in a way that might even actually be good for their mental health. They’ll also still remember to be vigilant, because you never know when the Thursday Wolves might strike again. They probably form a settlement nearby, which becomes a surprisingly cozy haven in an otherwise dangerous area.

Shoutout to my nuclear engineer brother for complaining about American radiation threshold policies so thoroughly I designed a vault about it
fallout fan vault idea:
every vault dweller/groups of vault dwellers are locked in seperate sections with whatever they need to survive and can only communicate with the other groups through terminal messages
i think it could be a cool commentary on the current state of society with the internet and stuff!! maybe the vault dwellers form relationships with others over the computers and stuff, positive and negative, and everyone really wants to meet eachother but only the overseer can give the word to unlock the doors to let everyone into a big common room area?
maybe the overseer is completely isolated in his own room and goes a bit crazy? or maybe he decides to shut down the computers and see how everyone reacts?? maybe the overseer is the rich guy who bought the vault to do the experiment ?.?.?.?.????
anyways if you have any more ideas for this lmk..........
