I see a lot of posts on Tumblr about how authors would really like more reviews on their work. I wholeheartedly agree that if someone likes a fic than they should let the author know.

But, I also want to suggest that authors who want commentary find other authors in the community and directly ask them to be beta readers. That way you are directly giving another author full permission to comment and critique as much as they want. 

I don’t know about other writers, but I’m very hesitant to give constructive criticism to an author when they have not directly asked for it and after the fic has been posted. On the other hand, if someone sent me their work directly and said “hey go nuts” I’d be very pleased to do so. 

Basically, try to form writing circles like what HP Lovecraft & co. did :)

English is my second language. As a child, I read a Taiora fanfic called “Eyes Of The Heart” by logan on ff.net. It was so beautiful that it inspired me to work on my English by writing fanfics. To this day, I attribute decent writing skills at work to the hours spent writing fanfiction.
