both Scarlet and Herb have potential to be so much better characters
eg. Scarlet could be a surly and moody and Herb could be like, trying to be cool/ a man a lot more than he has been since
i mean Scarlet’s situation is very sad, she could be a lot more like a little rebel instead of a do-gooder ray of sunshine omg
MORE SCARLET BEING BAD
more Herb in the villain world bc man is he sheltered when his parents own several branches of the Bank of Evil and everything
I want a real Bad Girl Scarlet, the real Biggest, Baddest Girl In Town, who everyone has something against her, with her men’s leather jacket and taped fists and several bandaids in different places on her body, and a lollipop in her mouth…. Basically I want a badder Scarlet and I want her to *be* the baddest girl in town y’know (basically I want her to bash more people up)
What did happen to Herb’s bruise and the cut on Scarlet’s lip
Scarlet’s eyes are not peridot, they’re EMERALD JFC
I want Herb to be I guess, comfortable around Scarlet and not blushing and stuttering all the time
I want S & H to be essentially teenagers, and teenagers of the 50’s, running around and being bad for more than a chapter or two
More dates omg
I want them to fall in love in a way that is normal, like I don’t think it’s normal enough – essentially I don’t know how to write unestablished love
Is it illegal to give Herb reading glasses
also Herb should have a surname for reasons. My brain can’t stop saying McFly :DDD
I WANT MORE OF MAMA SYLVIA, I LOVE MAMA SYLVIA (well she’s in chapter 11 but MORE)
I want Scarlet to have this tough Joan Jett “f off” side and then when she’s with Herb she’s a little angel
And they keep their relationship secret until Herb is threatened
Scarlet bashes many a person up
I want Scarlet to be sceptical of Herb’s science skills and then he’s tugging on her tiny ankle like PLEEEEEASE (okay maybe not that wild but like that)
I don’t really have a problem with the plot, but their characters could be so much more. Oh and did I mention I can’t get past chapter 9 without it being 3k words when it’s not even done?
Idk, I may restart it, or finish it and restart another story with relatively the same plot but better characterisation. I would call the restarted version either Her Inventor or Teenage Love Affair or Misfits with something else added onto it (both are Cold Chisel songs, which are here and here; they’re not the most amazing Chisel songs but hey it fits)
