#fandom blind

It has been a very long time (or at least it feels like it) since I last wrote fanfiction, and now that I've some ideas for a few fanfics, I'm scared to write. The reason why? The fandom I'm currently in is one where I'm navigating fandom blind. I haven't watched a single episode of the source material, but I'm still reading fics of it. And now...I feel the great urge to write, but I'm scared that if I write, it'll be so OOC that readers will come after me with stakes. It's scary. After all, I'm having quite a lot of fun in this new fandom and consuming it, but watching the source material? Nah, don't even know where I could watch it. Of course, I could always just write to myself and never publish my potential OOC fics...or just shove my fanfic ideas into a memory box that shall be forgotten over time.

So I’m not really in the MLP fandom, but I love the idea that Celestia chose Sunset and Twilight to be her apprentices specifically because they both reminded her of Luna.

Two fics which are my favorites, but not as popular as they could be

I'd say probably these two. Both can be read without any knowledge of those fandoms.

Fic #1

An angel...of life?: Ravyn's "bi awakening" and influence of "bad girl" Rei| Slice of Life (Webcomic), Oniisama e... / Dear Brother | Pairings: Lucy/Yuriko, Asaka Rei/Ravyn, Henmi Takehiko/Ichinomiya Fukiko, Simon & Lucy & Ravyn | Teen | 2.7K words

Summary: Having characters come to life, out of a television screen, is not new for Lucy or Ravyn. That's how Yuriko came to them from an anime named "Lady Vengeance," with Kojima, who was Yuriko's boyfriend in that series, later joining them. These days, Lucy and Yuriko were beginning their new romantic relationship together, and tried their best to be with each other. Ravyn was still working out how she felt about her sister and the female character (at the time) she loved, as a fangirl, Yuriko, being together. One night, she and her sister were finishing their marathon watch of the final episodes of "Dear Brother," on a Blu-ray which Lucy's friend had given to her at school. What would happen next would surprise them all, and especially catch Ravyn off guard in... more ways than one.

Local trainwreck gets out of a speeding ticket… somehow | Star Wars, Doctor Aphra | Pairings: Chelli Lona Aphra/Susina [Past] | Teen | 875 words

Summary: Aphra is pulled over for driving an unregistered red hover-car, at a high rate of speed, by a female officer with familiar face. This woman is determined to write Aphra a speeding ticket for her reckless driving. What could go wrong (or right)? You'll have to read to find out.

Hunger Games for the fandom asks! :D

No joy I'm afraid. The answer to everything is Katniss Everdeen because that's the only name I know. I also understand a vague enough reference to use "I volunteer as tribute" gifs when appropriate. That's it. I'll read/watch it one of these days, I'm sure!

Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

Fandom (Pairing): It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (Charlie/Mac)

Rated: T

Warnings: Fluff, Friendship, Hurt/Comfort, Substance Abuse

Summary: “Charlie rarely gets what he hopes for, and yet he and Mac always seems to wind up together somehow.”

Review: A collection of Charlie’s memories from childhood through adulthood, focusing mainly on his increasing substance abuse, mental instability, and the slow realization that he’s in love with his best friend.

I really liked reading this fic; it’s my first foray into the fandom and I hope there’s a lot more like this in my future. It has a slow, somber pace to it which sets the tone for Charlie’s emotional conflict, and it contrasts really well against the future-Charlie we see on the show who is the culmination of such conflict.

The writing is clean and simple and emotive. I would definitely recommend this one to a newbie in the fandom, or a casual reader. It’s probably also good for someone who doesn’t watch the show religiously, and can be seen as fandom-blind.
