With the absolute state of fandom at large, of which I have endless criticisms, I'm always worried that my internet weirdo levels of interest in Beastars is equally unhealthy and my justifications otherwise are just me grasping at straws.
#namely a lot of fandoms fail to actually critically engage with their source material#critically in the actual sense of the word not as in 'i like this but don't worry tumbly-poos I performatively flagellate myself for it'#where new media you enjoy just becomes fodder for the same stock fluffy AU shippy shit#Beastars actual canon text fails miserably at depicting the themes it says it has to the extent that like#literally every piece of fanwork has something more profound to say about it than it did#it's not all like#QUALITY analysis#but even super generic stock AU shit *works* in a way a lot of other fandoms don't because like#just making the wolf kiss different boys forces an acknowledgement of the themes and failures of Beastars and it's society#my bullshit#original post#fandom complaiing
