I remember posting just nonsense on here (and some elder social platforms) and not have every detail of my nonsense dissected and one upped. When one screamed into the void and the void would connect back.

The culture of educating others on social issues is no longer a conversation but a goddamn pissing contest. And what’s more hilarious is that it’s debate of short unnuanced takes amongst two flawed morons whom probably agree on more things than not.

And I’m fucking autistic as fuck and I hate this. Let’s be allies for once in a weirdness instead of competing.

Fandom infighting is always so tiresome because it's like...it's make believe. Y'all are fighting over whose make believe is better instead of just appreciating the breadth of interpretation one can have with make believe.

If a subset of people come to you and tell you that the way you’re interacting with a certain aspect of fandom hurts them, it’s usually a good idea to listen. They don’t want you to stop doing what you’re doing entirely, that’s not the point. They also don’t want to drag you for personal gratification or SJW brownie points (as I have been accused of recently). 

They want to make fandom a better experience for everyone, including you. Nobody is perfect, and we all fuck up (the gods know that I have in the past, and probably will again in the future) - that isn’t the problem. The problem is when people tell you you’re doing something hurtful out of your position of privilege and/or ignorance. In that case it’s your job to listen and think about what they said without immediately retaliating. If you come to the conclusion that they’re wrong and that you did nothing wrong; well, you do you.

 But at the very least listen and think.

Critique is not an attack, no matter if public or in private. And to dismiss a polite public critique as “shaming” is silly; your mistake was public too, and a public critique has the goal to also encourage others to think about what they’re doing and how, to not make the same mistake you made; it’s not just about you. Tolerance doesn’t mean “anything goes”. Tolerance can only work if there’s mutual respect and mindfulness.

What are your thoughts on Alina Zagitova? I've heard a lot of people saying she's better than Evgenia & they like her more, which I frankly find ridiculous. While I don't particularly love either of them, I feel like Alina's presentation is not there. At all. What's your take on it?

Well, a lot of people like one skater better than another, for all sorts of reasons. I think that Alina’s presentation could use work, but of course she is still a Junior, and it’s not to be expected that all of them are beautifully polished at her age.

I feel like I want to see more of Alina before casting too many judgements either way. As I said in the Marin question, I did not watch anywhere near as much Juniors as I would have liked this season, so though I have seen the video of the 0-8 FS, I haven’t seen much else. I did find that in her FS she sold the program very well, masking the backloading and making it seem that it was just a thing that happened rather than an intentional plan.

To be very honest, I do think that there are some who support Alina just because they want to see Evgenia taken down, because they cannot bear to see her winning everything. This is childish, and I don’t honestly think it will happen - not this season, at any rate.

Sometimes I get really exhausted with fandom, like... Kylux is really great and I’ve had a blast thus far and I’m not dipping, like its good, but at the same time... Why are so many people constantly attacking reylo? And why are people saying Kylux is any better. Here’s a hot tip: Kylo Ren has literally murdered children, and an actual shit ton of relatively innocent people. Confirmed for actual ton because I feel like if you weighed all those people pre-cremation he’s got as ash in his semi-canon ash well, it would be.... a literal ton....  Joking aside, any ship involving such a problematic character is going to be, by definition, problematic. That doesn’t mean you have to like it any less. Problematic characters are some of the most interesting. But you should also be self-aware about it... And you shouldn’t be toting it around like its some kind of moral highroad you’ve taken over those other plebs in the rot-pile that is reylo. Listen, buddy. We’re all in the trash compactor together, like it or not. So let reylo have its side of the dump and we in kylux can stay in ours and stormpilot can be the holy Han pipe keeping us alive and somewhat united while all the other unproblematic ships try to disengage the crushing walls and get us the hell out of shipping purgatory.

If these folks put their effort into doing something to actually fix the problem (e.g., correcting misinformation) instead of doing things to perpetuate it (e.g., running away and hiding), would it even be a problem?
