it’d be really nice if ppl could remember when characters are poc if they’re writing fic and hcs for them :))))
@bbcssherlock you cant! just! keep! adding! children!
so i JUST watched the victorian christmas special and like....they really kicked up the homoerotic subtext there didn’t they....like it wasn’t even my fangirl goggles picking that up, it was my literary analyst goggles.....i could genuinely write a paper about how the symbolism and emotional tones indicate that sherlock is Hella Gay, and that john and sherlock are in love.....i would turn this homoerotic subtext in for a grade.............
Sherlock please??

The expression "in Queer Street" was used in the United Kingdom for someone in financial trouble. In the 1904 Sherlock Holmes story "The Adventure of the Second Stain", Inspector Lestrade threatens that a misbehaving constable will "find [himself] in Queer Street", i.e., lose his position. By the time "The Adventure of the Second Stain" was published, the term [queer] was starting to gain a denotation of sexual deviance, referring to homosexual and/or effeminate males. An early recorded usage of the word in this sense was in an 1894 letter by John Sholto Douglas, 9th Marquess of Queensberry. Usage of queer as a derogatory term for effeminate gay males become prominent in the 20th century.
This is under the first heading on the wikipedia page for "queer." I shit you not. And if you follow through to the page about John Sholto Douglas, you will find that not only did his eldest son have an affair with the (male) prime minister, but that he got into a flame war with Oscar Wilde over Wilde's affair with Douglas's third son. I feel like they're just toying with us now
