Saw a tweet that was criticizing a tiktok for mischaracterizing Tim, and I agree that it was mischaracterization, but they commented about it on the tiktok and the author said they were new to DC. The tweet was, unsurprisingly, not positive.
I totally get the frustration with people who won't engage with comics but participate in comic fandoms, but I wonder what is really the right way to engage with a new fan. Because for me, that would be crazy discouraging having people aggressively belittle you if you just.. genuinely don't know yet. I don't know if that person is actually reading comics or not but maybe that weird characterization was the impression they got from whatever they had read. Your perception of a character is obviously going to be massively skewed by what you've read if you're new to them. You don't have a large pool to pull from to synthesize their "real" character.
I suppose I'm feeling particularly sympathetic because it's how I feel about Steph right now. I've read a little over 100 comics with her. It's an alright chunk but she has many more that I haven't gotten to yet. And it's stressful when you don't want to mischaracterize a character who you are genuinely interested in but still feel new to.
