Spock found him collapsed in a field, looking as though he'd simply fallen asleep--until he tried to wake him.

Now, they need to work against the clock to save Jim's life.

"You okay, kid?" Robby asks, softer now, like he's picking his words more carefully.

But then there's the hand. A soft touch against Frank's lower back, at the part where the curve is just beginning. It lasts for just a moment, but it feels like the echoes travel through his body for an eternity.

It's friendly. Supportive, even. But it feels like it leaves behind a hand-shaped burn below the cropped hem of his shirt. It feels worse still when the touch falls away. When Frank is left to deal with the heat in his belly and the tension in his chest.

His jeans fit just a little bit tighter than they did before. The friction of his boxers makes nausea well up in his throat. Frank tells himself it's just the tequila.

The bar is full of faces, both familiar and unfamiliar. Dr. Frank Langdon, a married man and the golden boy of the PTMC emergency room, drinks his shot of tequila, one of many, and Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, his attending, sips of his Old Fashioned. A familiar rhythm of mourning after another day at the ER. Except Frank feels like he's mourning more than just lost patients tonight.
