Fantasy!lock outline (part 2)
So I believe it was just yesterday, when I promised to write the rest of the Character Study for this story, am I right? Yes, I believe I am. So let's get started, shall we? After all we have one Molly Hooper and Mary Morstran to discuss and I haven't even mentioned Mycroft and the rest of the future Detective Club's members...
And before I start properly I have to thank to Lexie. It's really long time ago when I found her Detective Club post and I thought it was amazing idea. So I hope no one will get angry with me for using the same name in my outline. At least temporarily. If anyone has better idea about how to call their club in this story I'm all ears!
But right now:
Character Study: part 2
Molly Hooper
Species: Mermaid (at least at the beginning of the story)
Little Molly Hopper is super-clever mermaid. She lives in the sea nearby St. Bart's School. She was always interested in outside world. To be more specific: in the terrestrial part of world. She's curious about everything. She has five older brothers and three younger. (That's not much. Mermaids go about "child makeing" the same way fish do. There's simply that time of year and they feel the need to mate, so they do. They don't have so much modesty as overland supernatural species do.)
Molly is the only female in the family. Her mother isn't around much. As a predatory type of mermaid (or if you want to then let's call them sirens) she needs fresh flesh to survive, so she travels around the world, seduces men and eats them up - literally. Sirens use they vocal cords to make specific noises that males simply can't resist. What's more pureblood sirens are always considered beautiful, no matter what.
Sirens, for very obvious reasons (they're worse than vampires - at least nowadays they are. They still need meat and flesh - preferably human flesh - but vampires can easily survive just on blood packages from hospitals), can't set foot (or shall I say fin?) on the land. They're forbidden to do so.
Thankfully our curious mermaid is just half-predatory type and therefore can sign for exchange programme. This programme every year selects one mermaid who is taught Land Language (in this case English) and can spend full 365 days on the land. St. Bart's Hospital takes part in this project for years now. Headmaster believes it's only a good thing to educate mermaids more.
So you'd understand - mermaids and underwater society in general are classified as... well, something not inteligent enough. Creatures without manners with cold blood and croaky voices (only sirens are good at speaking and singing - most of the mermaids are simply used to use their vocal cords only under surface or to not use them at all - mermaids have other ways to communicate than just words - for example their pheromones, colous of their fin, if their able to colourshift and many others. But the probems with vocal cords come with age, or better - with how mmuch time you spend under water - that's why the programme chooses only teen mermaids - old enough to take care of themselves, but not old enough to have problems with speaking. By the way - mermaids age faster than humans do - one year is like two or three for them). And when you consider how many children each family has... For overland creatures it is simply barbaric. It's like some kind of undeveloped country for them. The truth is - mermaid soiety is simply different. When you age quicker you have to do things quicker or your speicement won't survive.
However Molly is simply the exact material for the exchange programme. She's young, sweet, bit shy when meeting new people, quick learner, curious and with simply perfect voice (thanks to her mother). She's on the top of list of students who'll have the chance to explore The World Above, as mermaids usually call it.
To say she's excited would big understatement.
However she is. She does convince her father and brothers, that she'll be fine and in the end they agree to let her go. It's sad she doesn't know what'll happen to her and that she won't be able to swim with them ever again... But that's for some other time.
Molly goes to the St. Bart's Shool with new shool year.
She has to use wheelchair to move around once she's on the land. (No, I'm not going to use magic to change her fin into legs - that's in my opinion hardly possible and I didn't even like the idea, so sorry if you were expecting I'm going to make it easy for her like that.) She can't really stand on her fin, now can she?
But that's not the only difficulty. She needs to stay well-hydrated. She's still mermaid and she needs lot of water to drink in order to stay alive. (That's what almost causes her her life once. She stays with Sherlock in his lab for too long one day and she forgets to drink. But I'll come back to this little escapade later.) On the other hand mermaids actually are cold-blooded creatures. That means she needs enough clothing to stay warm at all times. She's sensitive to temperature. It's sad her taste in clothing is terrible, but those hideous jumpers at least keep her warm.
However the worst dead for mermaid is still to dry. It's painful, because all scales on their fins are slowly dropping off. It's probably the worst thing possible for mermaids. And people say some mermaids even lost their minds during this process. No one knows for sure, because it's long time since The Hunts. So Molly is advised to go swimming at least once every three days, so her fin can stay hydrated.
Molly as a proper sea mermaid also driks water with salt, but thanks to her mum can eat meat as well as vegetable and though she prefers vegetarian meals she eats fish just fine too (John once asks her if it's not cannibalism. Molly blushes and stammers. Sherlock only huffs in anoyance: "Is it cannibalism when shark eats other fish? Really, John...")
So that's basicaly Molly Hooper's life up to the point when she starts her year at Bart's. There she shares room with fairy called Meena, but everything other will have to wait for the continuation of this outline.
Mary Morstran
Species: fairy (some people say pixie, but mind you - that's not the right term! But if you especialy dislike word fairy, you can always use the same name John uses - he simply calls her "Bloody Minx")
Mary is all mischief and pranks. Like every proper fairy she loves fun and romance. Fairies are something like Cupid. They love to play matchmakers or simply make human's lives more interesting. The don't like to be bored and they have charming kind of aura around them. They're something like overland sirens.
Sadly, that's partly why not many people think highly of fairies. They're simply the ones for fun. But if you want to find fairy who's politician or officer it'll be incredibly hard. Fairies usualy like more artictic jobs like singer, writer, cook and so on. They don't like to keep things "all serious".
But because of this, others find them rather too wild. As if they were always stuck as teens. Very little people take them seriously.
It might be partly even because of the sexuality fairies have. They can't help it, but are very... erm, full of appetite. Some fairies even build their career on the sexual urges. What's more fairies are very breakable creatures - charming, but petite with slim waists and fragile bones so their wings can be strong enough to lift them. They usually don't eat much and are considered the prettiest girls at school.
Now look at everything fairies are and compare it to Mary Morstran.
Yes, Mary is most definitely fairy.
No, she most definitely is not ordinary one.
Mary's father used to work for The Night Knights (don't remember who TNK are? Read my previous post on the matter of Fantasy!lock then. I believe I mentioned them at least twice) and his daugter learned quite a few tricks from him. She can handle almost every known weapon and is unstoppable force when she once sets her mind into it.
Mary never knew her mum, but accroding to her dad she was fairy as well, which means Mary is pureblood fairy.
As I mentioned before this goes nicely with her mischievous part and her romantic heart. She's very romantic person. Fairies have twice in their life chance to bond. First time is sometime around their 17 and the second around 40. Fairies are very indipendent creatures full of energy - well, until they're bonded. Bond is for lifetime and not even death can change it.
Mary has always hoped to find her match, her bondmate, or even better - her soulmate and to be bond on her on her first Glittering (that's how fairies call they time of bonding, because all magical powers fairies posses are during that time connected just and only to their emotions and when you think of typical cheerful character of fairies then it's not hard to deduce everything around them shines and glitters almost instantly - fairies' magic is almost always visible via strong and coloured light comming from each spell), but she loses all her hope, when she's kiddnaped on her 14th birthday.
It turns out her father was on some kind of case alone. Something happened and he vanished - no one knows where to. So 3S (still remember them from my last post?) were supposed to bring her to the secret base of TNK. TNK takes special care of children of their members and if there's no living family for the children, they raises them in their base.
So that's how Mary was trained. And she was bloody good. She even went to a few missions with professionals and everyone praised het on her skills.
It's all good until one very important member of TNK takes special interest in the young fairy. He wants to train her into something more and better - into Assasin with capital A. Into something - modificated. Something only few people know about for now.
Thankfully Mary finds few clues about her planned "promotion" and she decides to flee. She explains to TNK that she's fairy and wants her freedom and they buy it. So the organization pays for her education at St. Brat's Hospital.
She starts the same year as Molly and her story is intereting one as well. But all in the right time.
I believe I promised to do Mycroft as well today, but I can't find the energy. I always get home incredibly late and I have terrible day ahead tomorrow, so I hope you understand. But I hope to write Mycroft, Lestrade, Donovan and Anderson this week too. Now when I think of it I should include Mrs. Hudson, Irene and Moriarty too, shouldn't I?
Yes, I probably will.
At least you have our four main characters. I almost always put those four as the main ones, because I simply love their dynamics. It's perfect. I love them as friends and as couples too. Both are amazing.
Oh, I'm definitely tired - I'm starting to ramble even in my writing. God.
< Previous: (Basic information + Character Study I.: Sherlock, John)
So as always, few things before the end:
No, I don't own Sherlock or the characters. They all belong to their respective owners. Mine is only this outline and plot I created here.
As always - do you have antyhing you want to know? Are you interested in any minor detail? I'm all ears, so please don't hesistate to ask - I'll be happy to reply. Or if you have any sort of impovement, I'll be happy to listen to it as well. But probably read my ABOUT page beforehand though.
I wonder if anyone actually reads the notes under line? Well, it's not like it matters.
Well then - hope you enjoyed what I've written today. Good night.
