Start Curling, Baby!
I’m standing next to the owner of a home in a small French village near Sainte Menehould (the birthplace of Dom Perignon in 1638) which, one hundred years ago during World War I, was not too far from the front lines. French soldiers occupied this home during WWI. One soldier left an endearing inscription….a love note to “Agnes"….a beautiful 19 year old French woman who lived in this home with her parents a century ago. The owner permitted me to photograph this WWI love note in her garage which has survived in almost perfect condition. Then she told me about her Aunt Agnes, whom she actually knew as a young girl. Agnes died when the lovely French woman standing next to me in this picture was only 12 years old. Out of respect for her privacy, her name is not mentioned.
