It's Friday morning, the air is chilly but with promise of warmth, and we're here drinking coffee and catching up on administrative stuff. The past couple of months have been some of the most challenging and rewarding months in our history. Maybe the introspection is left over from my recent trip to Colorado, or maybe it's just the peaceful feeling of Friday's in the shop, but either way I welcome it. In thinking long and hard about the small history we've got as a brand, and the future ahead, I can't helped but be overwhelmed. Good months and bad months, working with huge companies to individuals, making money and making nothing, designs and redesigns, smart and stupid decisions, all of what's involved in running a small brand based upon personal heritage is taxing. But in the best way possible. When I started this brand 3 years ago, never in a million years did I guess what it would do or where it would go. I knew I wanted something I cared about, tied to people I care about, making things for people who were willing to listen to me geek out about leather. Fast forward 3 years later, I don't have words to express my gratitude to all of you. While you may not see all the storms, the sleepless nights, the bloody fingers (yes this has happened. A LOT), the victories, the losses, the highs and lows, you all are the reason we keep going. Not in a way that denotes drudgery, but with excitement and all out enjoyment. From myself and Issac, thank you all for staying on board, spreading the word, supporting, and giving a damn about a small brand built from the ground up. Being in the shop back in Portland, there's not a day that goes by that isn't stressful. Orders, design, marketing, photos, and all the other stuff that goes along with a business. To be honest, I've been at a breaking point recently. I'm learning that any business worth a damn comes to this point. Working in good times and bad times you come to a fork in the road. It's not so much a "business" decision solved like a math problem. Rather, it's a deep questioning of your own values. Staring yourself straight in the mirror, and truly digging to find out what you value. Is it simply growth or some manufactured degree of "success"? Or is it building something with a deeper meaning that only certain people understand? The deeper meaning is what we're after. It's not just about wallets, or belts, or whatever else we can come up with that in reality has been done before. The person who claims to have reinvented the wheel is the person that needs to turn in their card. Big skies, open fields, lack of streetlights and noise, cheap beer, and people we've shared the last 48 hours with in Colorado have brought some things to light. Build it because it means something. To me, to you, to people we haven't met yet. But what do the things we make "mean"? I think I'm going to spend my whole damn life figuring that out. And I couldn't be more excited to one day figure out the answer.
