And now for my next trick...
I haven't shared on TMI Tuesday for a really long time, so here's a few tidbits that absolutely no one will care about.
First of all, my husband was diagnosed with Crohn's disease about 3 years ago. Now he not only has to take a special medication every day for the rest of his life to keep his body from attacking itself, he also has to get a colonoscopy every couple of years to make sure he doesn't have any ulcers in his intestines that would eventually rupture. They almost did about 3 years ago and it scared the shit out of everyone (no pun intended). Before then, he had no idea he had the disease and then suddenly he couldn't eat or drink without being in horrible pain and went from being about 180 pounds to being about 130 pounds overnight.
So Thursday he's going to need another colonoscopy. This apparently takes a few days to prep. Today and yesterday he had to lower his fiber intake. Tomorrow he will 'fast' which means he can only eat popsicles, jello and gatorade. Tomorrow night he'll then be taking all kinds of laxatives and whatnot to purge his body of any waste. Thursday morning, he takes some more medicine to get out any remaining residoodoo, and then a few hours later, he gets put under a local anesthetic and is ready for his very personal close-up.
After that, comes my favorite part, which is the recovery room, or as I like to call it, the fart room. This is where the patients have to try and expel all the air they fill them up with when using the camera up in dem der bowels. Farting is both encouraged and expected, and I remember last time how surreal it was, because it's a fairly large room with curtained off areas for what seems like 20 or so patients. All of them doing their best to toot their horns.
I can't do the colonoscopy with him. I probably won't have the honor of having those for another 7 or 8 years (thank God). But in support of his day, I do plan on going through the rest of the preparations. I figured that it might actually do my body some good to have a new clean slate, so to speak. Plus it will give me a healthy dose of what my husband has to go through.
Today it's candy and sugar galore, but tomorrow, I expect to be pretty damn grouchy. I am also tempted to count just how many bathroom trips I make before this is all over.
Lucky You.
