Okay I’m slut shaming Barry for this cover. That luridly bleeding thigh cut is just too much.

I love that Grill the Grid is just endless confirmation that there's simply elevator music playing in the empty cavern of every drivers' head at any given moment. No thoughts, head empty, car fast, that's all
Not Romain posting pictures of Marion across the table from him at dinner like a teenager with his first girlfriend 🤧 I'm in love with their love
Things I would like: a lighthearted mockumentary filmed a la the office about the 1982 drivers strike.
I'm so emotional about JEV and his second world championship. That man deserves the world and he gives me hope for my own future
I have a lot of very mixed feelings about the W Series announcement.
On the one hand; single seater racing is by and large a nepotistic community and women haven’t generally been given the opportunities to form those networks which are necessary to progress in (if not break in to) the sport. As a training ground I love the idea, it allows for the larger teams and sponsors to see talent that they may not have otherwise simply because it will be there for them to see. It’s a step forward in helping to increase the visibility (not necessarily the equality - although ideally the two will link up at some point) of female drivers and I think, especially for very young women, could be the perfect push towards more women in motorsport altogether. (I also like the idea because I am a tragic bisexual and love me some racing ladies. I will likely have a heart attack and die tbh)
On the other hand: It definitely runs the risk of becoming a “separate but equal” solution - the major teams in F1 will say “well, women have their own series! so why should we hire them to race in ours?” regardless of the talent the women showcase and regardless of the intention of the series as a whole as a stepping stone towards larger series. I am also mildly concerned at the fact that the founders are mostly male ex-drivers and the only female core executive is the CEO who seems to mainly be the financial backer - that, to me, reeks of exploitation (the intention behind it coming from a good place, perhaps, but exploitation nonetheless - like I said about visibility not equaling equality earlier).
It’s important to take it all with a grain of salt.
that being said: I want to see female-lead teams, female engineering and mechanic teams and lots and lots of female fans. This is, ideally, a showcase to prove that we exist and are just as good, if not better than the men who dominate all aspects of the higher series. If we let this sputter out and die it will only serve to prove them right: that there’s no support for female racers, that a women can’t drive or lead a team or change tyres.
Believe me when I say I am going to be watching every moment of it I can get my grubby little hands on and I’m planning on paying for the pleasure if only to prove everyone who says no one would care about an all female series wrong.
A playlist featuring Meridian Dan, Robert Charlebois, MC Hammer, and others
The playlist has been updated for the 2018 drivers and is about 80% more meme than actual music because I don’t have the benefit of a limiting influence this year. This is really irreverent and I apologize for everything.
