I dont think white ppl or just ppl whove not had to deal with any degree of seperation from their culture understand the kind of ramifications thatd have on de Sardet. That’s like a landslide. Comes in a burst but then things just.. keep falling with more and more belatef realizations and a long long time before theyre standing on stable ground again.
this is exactly what it is. when i first played it, the whole thing immediately struck me as an incredibly White™ interpretation of how someone might react to a revelation on that scale, precisely because it utterly lacks any real empathy
especially in the good ending where you get the “best” possible outcome, the thought that DS would return to his position as peacemaker/legate for a faction who were the original colonizers on the island, murdered his parents, kidnapped him with the sole purpose of indoctrinating him to use him for their own ends shows such a painful inability of understanding on the writers’ parts that i cringe just thinking about it
