When I say that fat people can't even post photos of ourselves without dealing with fatphobic bullshit, I mean stuff like seeing a selfie of a fat person on Tumblr and then this is the first reply on the post:
Just a normal selfie with no caption about weight at all, but that's apparently too much fat representation for this bigoted world to allow. And this is the tamest example I can give you.
A fat person posting a selfie online will often receive death threats, harassment, stalking, slurs, unsolicited weight loss "advice," fake "concern" about health because a fatphobe assumed the fat stranger's medical history, fatphobes stealing their photo to repost and mock with their friends, thinspo people stealing their photo to repost and throw up to with their friends, fat fetishists stealing their photo to repost and get off to with their friends, scammers stealing their photo to repost and use as a weight loss scam, I could go on.
Fat people deserve representation.
That should not be a controversial statement. How are people, oftentimes "progressive" people no less, debating over whether an oppressed group deserves to simply take and post photos of themselves?
If you actually believe in equity, equality, and justice, then stop harassing fat people for simply existing in the same world as you.
