How to Take Care of Your Faucet
The lifespan of a tap is not only dependent on the material it is made of but also how it is takes care of. Care of a tap includes good installation, maintenance and repair of the tap when needed. Repair and maintenance can make a huge difference when it comes to the durability of a faucet. There are different ways of maintaining taps including;
Proper cleaning
After every use, taps, accompanying sinks and faucet accessories should be cleaned well to maintain the attractive appearance. Most sinks are white in color. Lack of cleaning leads to staining and eventually the color turns to have ugly cream white or yellow patches. At times, there will be a complete change to a different color. Mold also begins to grow on sinks left unattended for a long time. This especially happens in sinks placed in rooms not frequently used.
Consider the material used to make the faucet when cleaning. Different materials require different care methods. For example, chrome taps require frequent buffing while brass has a natural rustic look which need not be buffed.
Appropriate use of taps
Use taps for their intended purposes. You cannot install bathroom faucets in a kitchen because they have a relatively short spout reach and their sinks are smaller. Washing utensils would be difficult and constant hitting of the spout could cause it to loosen.
Proper care of the taps
Avoid leaving solid waste in sinks. Solids cause blockage to the drainage system which will in turn cause the sinks to overflow.
Do not let children play close to sinks or taps. They may hit sinks causing dents. Close bathroom doors to safeguard your bathroom faucets. Care also involves repair and use of correct faucet accessories where needed. Consult an expert for your repairs to avoid further damage.
