Chapter 12 of Old Life in a New World is up
She's being dramatic," Lily said with a huff.
"She hasn't even said anything. Now hush," Alice waved her off and looked back at Marlene eagerly.
"So about two seconds after you left," Marlene continued, "Sibyl Ferlet, you know from Hufflepuff, came up and started talking to James. Our very own Prefect looked mad enough to kill."
"See, dramatic," Lily groaned but the Gryffindor still looked furious.
Marlene looked like she was ready to bust, "and then, Ferlet asked him to Hogsmeade, and when James agreed… Lily went feral," Marlene finished with a cackle.
"Oh sod off," Lily snapped and walked into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.
"Oooh," Freya teased, "You're in trouble."
"She'll be fine. At this point, I think she only turns him down on principle." Marlene waved her hand towards the bathroom, "She's mad now but she'll calm down and realize there's a reason FOR HER INSANITY!" she screamed the last three words.
"Fuck off McKinnon!" was faintly heard through the bathroom door.

Headcanon – The Parkinson Family
What we know--
The Parkinson Family are not Death Eaters. Nowhere is it mentioned Pansy’s mother or father are death eaters or that they had any affiliation with death eaters. That being said however, the Parkinson family are members of the sacred 28, and have been known to express agreement and actively work towards pureblood supremacy.
Example: The only other notable member of the family mentioned throughout canon besides Pansy is Perseus Parkinson who was Minister for Magic from 1726 to 1733.
He attempted to pass a bill making it illegal to marry a Muggle. However, in doing so, he misread the public mood; the wizarding public was tired of anti-Muggle sentiment and wanted peace. Parkinson was therefore voted out during the next election for Minister.
Perseus Parkinson's attempts to ban mixed marriages though they failed may have inspired Rappaport's Law introduced by MACUSA president Emily Rappaport some years later.
We also know Perseus was pro-Azkaban, but otherwise know little of his policies or life.
From this we gather the family is politically minded and many members were undoubtably involved in the ministry and continued to be throughout much of Wizarding Englands history, and that they would have been seen as death eater sympathizers after the second wizarding war.
-- Immediate Family
Pansy’s father was a highly ranked member of the wizengamot. His mother (Pansy’s grandmother) was of the Fawley family and as such had been a Hufflepuff. This influence led Pansy’s father to be the most doting, outwardly kind and trusting member of Slytherin in his year. However, constant teasing (even if most of it was good natured) about how had obviously been placed in the wrong house caused him to build a hard exterior, his doting and kind ways only seen by those he cares for such as his wife and child.
Pansy’s mother (Slytherin) was born into the Burke family, the youngest of four. She spent her early childhood helping her grandfather run the family business, Borgin and Burkes, and learning about every dark artifact that came through the doors. She believes highly in the importance of blood-purity, is rigid, and controlling. She cares for power, and appearances.
It’s interesting to note that burke in Old English means either "to murder by suffocation, or so as to produce few marks of violence, for the purpose of obtaining a body to be sold for dissection" or "to smother; to conceal, hush up, suppress.” and I feel like that tells you a lot about Pansy’s mother and how she runs not only her life, but her home.
Needless to say Pansy and her mother don’t get along. She’s a loud mouth, spoiled, does what she wants, and her father lets her. This causes endless tension between them.
-- Society
Due to their involvement in politics and business being considered recent in regards to Wizarding English history, the Parkinson’s in general are viewed a bit like ‘new money’. They’re good to know, but aren’t always invited to everything.
This changed slightly after the first wizarding war when certain Death Eaters who were let go after having claimed to have bene under the imperius curse needed to clean up their reputations. The Parkinson’s were pureblooded and were regarded in a positive light by the majority of the public. They were not only good to know, they were good to be in with -- thus families like the Nott’s and Malfoy’s began to take more notice.
Christmas Day walk at Denny Wood in the New Forest-10 different pictures in this photoset to the ones I tweeted
After a large Christmas dinner we walked at Denny Wood having a little look over the heath by Shatterford. This was a last chance to walk in our precious New Forest before we enter tier 4 COVID restrictions tomorrow with the New Forest going into tier 3. We shall of course miss coming here but the fight against COVID is in a critical point now with the uncertainty and horrible and devastating impact of the new variant so I feel the tougher measures in the south east and east are needed.
It is worth noting that whilst it is written in present tense of Christmas Day this blog is being posted past the point of the restrictions introduction.
Denny Wood is of course famous for the woodland birds with a long standing arrangement where they are fed by various people. My Mum had started to put bird food in her hand and the birds would momentarily stand on her hand and take the food. So I had a go at this after she did today and I had Coal Tit and Marsh Tit land on my hand briefly to take food and then fly off with it. It was exceptional to feel the bird’s light and delicate figure softly touch my hand. A wonderful intimate moment. It was also amazing to hear their wings beat as they flew as I have observed at this special spot here before. They are indeed two of our finest woodland bird species I do always enjoy seeing both but especially the Marsh Tits, so it was astonishing to see both very very close to me and look them in the eyes. I didn’t have my camera around my neck at that point but had I then I would have really been too close to the birds to take a picture which said a lot. This was one of my most sense evoking and special moments of a spirited and wonderful Christmas Day for me. I took the first picture in this photoset of the garden looking nice and sunny earlier I especially enjoyed this whilst opening presents and having dinner today and second picture in this photoset of a Chaffinch near to the other feeding woodland birds.
My Mum had also seen on previous recent visits some eyelash fungus. We walked into the trees and she showed me the trees these were on where they go. They are incredibly tiny and very nice to see. I needed my macro closeup lens for this one as I wanted to take a picture and I managed to do it I took a few including the third picture in this photoset. I got to see what beautiful and delicate little mushrooms they are. A wonderful species to see adding well to my best ever year of fungi which has included so many headline species and this was one. I mentioned in my wildlife and photography highlights blogs in the autumn, New Forest and November and December themed ones what a brilliant year I have had for fungi this year and this adds to this so well, the feeding bird moment making it a wonderful Christmas Day walk was also a very big highlight of my 2020. I took the fourth picture in this photoset of some delightful green on the fores floor too.
It was then nice to walk over to the heath between here and somewhere else we go Shatterford as I wanted to see a heath before possibly not coming back to a New Forest one for some time, and it was lovely to see views all around including looking down to Fawley Power station. This power station, a prominent feature of Hampshire’s landscape visible at much of the coast and from the forest, the South Downs and even Dorset as I discovered when at Durlston in 2017 on our April visit there, is to be demolished. I joked tier 4 restrictions may mean this would be gone by the time we came back to the forest, although I have just seen demolition is expected to be completed in 2022 so I doubt it. It looked nice as the brilliant sun of today was just starting to fade. And before and after this walking through the woods we loved taking in scenes of the sun heading down in the sky with sun through trees and others which looked very beautiful. I took the fifth, sixth and seventh pictures in this photoset of the landscape and eighth, ninth and tenth of the sky scenes. I hope you all had as wonderful and safe a Christmas Day as you could have. I certainly enjoyed a peaceful and happy day with family and in other special company and doing things I love on this walk.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: Nuthatch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Marsh Tit, Coal Tit, Chaffinch, Blackbird and like enjoying the holly in the garden earlier again whilst looking in it and mistletoe at Lakeside yesterday fittingly a Robin a real symbol of Christmas on Christmas Day. We also got a stunning view of one of my favourite birds the Buzzard flying over when in the car on the way.
Fawley Power Station, to be demolished soon, 2019
