This is known as the fawn response—a survival strategy where people learn to prioritize the needs, emotions, or approval of others to feel safe.
What may appear as people-pleasing on the surface can sometimes be a deeply learned response to environments where disagreement, boundaries, or self-expression felt risky.
The fawn response isn't a character flaw. It's an adaptation.
And like any adaptation, it can be understood, supported, and gradually reshaped.
