Return The Favor (A Jasper Cillessen One-Shot)
I. Need. A. Favor.
Obviously Elsa loved Jasper – he was her boyfriend after all – but one of the most annoying things about him, something that made her want to claw those sea green eyes out of its orbits was the fact that he had the most incredible memory on the planet…
…And the worst requests when it came to returning favors.
Like when her car broke during rush hour in the middle of Amsterdam and he left Ajax’s training grounds earlier to rescue her, and in return…
…He asked her to go with him visit his mother for an entire weekend.
Because of one blown engine and an oil change, she had to deal with Jasper’s mother’s snarky comments and uncomfortable questions every time her boyfriend left the room.
(Elsa and his mom weren’t exactly close.)
(They hated each other.)
(But in front of him they were basically mother-and-daughter.)
(God, she was glad his mom lived far, far away.)
Elsa wasn’t even supposed to be there talking to Jasper – Ajax’s goalkeeping coach was giving her the stinky eye and she could hear his teammates chanting cute lovey doey songs on the background (all chewing on her chocolate chip cookies, to the dismay of the club’s dietitian), yet it was an emergency, and Jasper could tell there was something bothering her by the way she kept restlessly moving from the balls of her feet to her tiptoes and biting her nails.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” He asked, rubbing her arm affectionately as he grabbed her by the hand and shifted their positions so they were away from his teammates prying eyes “Els, what’s happening?”
Okay, she'd cut the crap and just say it.
“Jas, I need a favor.”
Raising an eyebrow, he put a strand of her hair behind her ear, a small smirk on his lips as he spoke “I’m listening.”
“My landlord is being an asshole again.” Elsa whined, and Jasper felt anger boil inside of him – his biggest wish in life was to punch that fatty old man in the face.
(He wouldn’t – obviously – his hands were insured.)
(But he did drunkenly pee on the man’s welcoming mat once.)
(Or twice.)
(Elsa only knew about the first time.)
Jasper let out a grunt - what Elsa took as a sign for her to continue “He wants to raise my rent again, basically double it.” The girl chuckled ironically and Jasper shook his head – it was probably the third time that year her landlord started with that crap “Oh, and he also wants me to get rid of Snickers.”
That made his jaw drop a little.
“He wants you to get rid of your cat?”
Snickers had been a two years anniversary gift he'd given her – a white, fluffy Persian cat with big, baby blue eyes.
Jasper was never a cat person, but man how he liked that cat.
“Yeah, he said Snickers is giving him allergies. I mean…” Elsa snorted “But that’s not the point. The point is: I’m moving out.”
“Fucking finally!” He blurted out, pulling her for a tight hug, giving her a kiss on the top of the head.
He wanted to ask her to move in with him for ages – his proud owner of a bachelor pad act was getting old, half of her stuff were already in his place, he lived much closer to her job, in a nicer area of the city and he had no annoying landlord.
Plus, he’d be able to officially call Snickers his cat.
“I know, I know!” Elsa playfully showed him the tongue, not surprised at how happy he looked for her.
They barely hung out at her house because of all the nuisances, like the fact that her next door neighbor was some hippie addicted to incenses that made Jasper sneeze or the guy across the hall who was a die-hard Ajax fan and seemed to sniff her boyfriend from miles away, never failing to knock on Elsa’s door and start discussing the previous match with Jasper.
“So…” Elsa clapped excitedly “Here is where you come in.”
He was sure he was smiling like an idiot – about time, he thought, hallelujah, Jasper was already picturing those tiny things she’d change on his house, like the uncomfortable cushions on his couch that she hated replaced by her fluffy ones, emptying half of his closet for her stuff to fit in, her shoes spread around the living room, having her next to him every day…
“I already talked to Aimee and she said its okay for me to move in with her and live there until I can find someplace else. But my landlord wants me out until eight pm tomorrow so it means I’ll need as much help as I can get, so I was wondering…”
What.
Jasper was sure that was what his face was displaying, a look of pure and utter confusion, but he closed his mouth and un-furrowed his brows, trying to stay focused on what his girlfriend was saying and not on the inner struggle he was now going through.
(Why didn’t Elsa think about moving in with him first?)
(He wasn’t her first option?)
(But they were together for over two years!)
“Can you come and help if you’re not busy, after training?” She was biting her lower lip and although she knew chances of Jasper saying no were close to zero his weird face and thin lips pressed together were making her have doubts “Please?”
It took him a couple of seconds to nod in agreement, still a bit puzzled, but hugging her back nonetheless, giving her the usual goodbye kiss and promising to meet her right afterwards.
He was so distracted during training the coach sent him home earlier, and he was greeted by an old van and loads of boxes on the sidewalk as he approached Elsa’s condo, hands in his pockets, still struggling if whether he should say something or not.
Her apartment was a mess – more than usual -, and he found some boxes in the corner with his name written on it, a sparkle of hope igniting until Elsa’s best friend Aimee explained those were heavy boxes that none of them could carry so he’d have to do the job.
“Where’s Elsa?” He questioned, face covered by a massive box that apparently contained a couple of dead corpses as Aimee opened doors and told him where to watch his step.
“Oh, Snickers got freaked out with all the moving and ran off. She’s looking for him.”
Jasper liked Aimee – she was sweet and responsible and would be a perfect roommate for Elsa, and he made sure to voice that, trying to not sound bitter.
Or jealous.
“Meh, I’m sure she’d much rather live with you.” The girl replied, helping him load the boxes into the van.
Jasper was pretty much certain he sounded like a whiny five year boy when he asked “Then why doesn’t she?”, Aimee shrugging pointing at a breathless figure coming in their direction.
“You better ask her.”
“Hey, you’re here!” Elsa smiled, getting on her tiptoes to kiss him – Snickers squeezed between them “I think we’ll be able to get everything out by today. Turns out I don’t have that much crap anyway.” She said cheerfully, looking around the floor for Snickers little cat cage.
“I’ll take him.” Aimee offered, giving Jasper a wink “I’ll finish packing your CD collection.”
“Oh, be careful.” The girl pleaded, which her friend replied “Nah, I’ll throw everything in like the bitch I am!” making them laugh as Jasper slung one arm around her shoulder, walking them both to the van.
Elsa hopped on the half empty trunk, sitting there with ankles dangling, as Jasper leaned in, his hands on her sides “What’s up, JC?”
He chuckled, shaking his head at that stupid pun she threw every now and then, her beaming grin with those lovely dimples making him a bit less nervous yet he couldn’t help but to run his fingers through his sweaty blonde hair (he had showered after training but when he was nervous he always sweat like a maniac, what wasn’t one of his most attractive features) as he summoned courage to bring up the subject.
Jasper Cillessen wasn’t really known for beating around the bushes, so he asked, as clear as ABC “Why won’t you move in with me?”
Elsa’s mouth was a bit agape as she played with his fingers, giving a small shrug “And ruin your bachelor pad?” The girl shook her head slowly “You love that place. If I moved in, you know I’d end up changing some things, right?”
Jasper huffed, rolling his eyes “Of course, but –”
“Like, your cushions. They suck. Yet you love those damn hard as rock cushions.” Elsa started enumerating “Oh, and you’d have to empty at least half of your closet for my stuff to fit in. At least. And imagine how it would feel like to have my shoes around your house all the time, you’d go nuts. And trip. Definitely trip.” She mumbled, shaking her head and he smiled at how well she knew him “And don’t forget, you’d have Snickers around, rubbing on you all the time.”
He pouted his lower lip, nodding slowly “You’re right…” Pulling her closer to him by the knees, he added “But I’d also have you around, rubbing on me all the time.”
Elsa threw her head back in laughter, slapping him on the chest as he chuckled too, smirking at her “I think I already know what I’ll need you to do to return the favor for carrying all those insanely heavy boxes through two flights of stairs.”
“Oh, you do?” Elsa raised an eyebrow, entertwining her fingers behind his neck as he continued.
“I’ll need you to replace my hard as rock cushions with your fluffy ones.” He said matter of factly “And of course, fill half of my closet with your stuff.” With a heavy sigh, he continued “Sure, I’ll want you to scatter your shoes around the house, and don’t tell me where, cause I want to make sure I trip on all of them at least once.”
“Would that be all?” Elsa asked, their foreheads resting together and Jasper tutted.
“Of course not.”
“Oh, there is more then?”
“I’ll want Snickers.”
Elsa gasped dramatically, leaning away from him “I cannot accept that. Nope. The condition to take Snickers is that I’ll have to go with him.” She said with a shrug.
Jasper let out the loudest grunt, sounding like he was dreading it “Fine. I’ll take you too. Bummer.”
“Meh, guess I’ll have to return the favor soon then.” Elsa muttered with a pout, which he kissed away.
“Right away.” He ordered, giving her a peck “As soon as possible.” Another peck “Immediately.”
“Eager to be my roommate, Jas?” The girl teased, thumb running on his jaw with a grin.
Her boyfriend snorted, rolling his sea green eyes “Eager to have Snickers, duh.”
“Idiot.”
“Hey, don’t insult your new landlord. I’ll add more favors to that list, miss.” He waited four seconds before adding the punch line, winking “Sexual favors.”
“Christ, I’m already regretting this decision.”
“No regretting. I forgot to mention, the favors must be done immediately and indefinitely.” Jasper spoke with a serious expression “So, what are you waiting for?”
She mimicked his tone from earlier “Fine.”
“Oh, and one more thing.”
“What Jas?”
“Maybe we could go visit my mother this weekend and tell her the good news!”
That was it.
She’d ask for no more favors.
(Or she’d try to make peace with his mother…)
(…Nah, she’d ask for no more favors.)
