There's a lot going on in this scene. Simon is looking for a sign that Marceline still needs him. And he just... does not get that. Marcy grew up. She has a girlfriend. With her immortality, she's probably used to the idea that most of her loved ones are going to die in a relatively brief period of time.

The truth is that Simon needs her more than she needs him, but he can't accept that. He can't bring himself to be honest and ask her for help. And so he goes on suffering in silence.

It says a lot about Simon's life that this can probably be considered "the good times."

So we've got Fionna who needs to use her Snooze button every morning, and Simon who lies awake waiting for the alarm to go off.

Not sure which is worse, to be honest. I've gone through both kinds of mornings and neither of them are fun.

So Simon is basically living in a zoo now. The saddest part is that this really is the closest thing to a normal life he can get in Ooo. The only other human around is Finn, and he's a lunatic adventurer who regularly beats up giant monsters. Simon is just A Guy.
