hello! first of all i love your blog.
the problem i need help with is troubleshooting fcitx5 to allow cjk input methods on my ubuntu laptop.
i'm a newbie to linux, i started getting into it around a year ago. i have a desktop running linux mint cinnamon and chinese input worked out of box, but on my laptop i have been attempting to set up the input method for... about 3 months. i am out of my depth and feeling so disheartened!
it's a Lenovo ThinkBook 13s G2 ITL running Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS. happy to send the diagnostics i'm getting and the help articles i've been referencing.

TUMBLR NEVER NOTIFIED ME OF THIS ASK IM SO SORRY!!
Thank you for contacting transgender tech support!!
Of course we have to get some basic questions out of the way, but feel free to dm me or send me another ask!!
When was the last time you updated fcitx5 since beginning this journey? Linux often updates frequently, and being an update behind could make further troubleshooting a nightmare!
Did you install the environment variables with {export XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx5}, {export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx5}, {export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx5}
Did you fully install it using sudo apt install?
Did you turn it off and back on again Not Applicable
I’ve also found that when struggling with a Linux program, sometimes the easiest method after a while is to fully uninstall the software and start from the beginning again!
And welcome to the world of Linux, friend!! Ill share a secret with you- everyone who uses Linux feels out of their depth sometimes, even the people who write distros! You have absolutely got this, and we can stubborn our way into getting cjk up and functioning!!
(Additionally in my research, I found you can access extra fonts by using {sudo apt install fonts-noto-cjk fonts-noto-cjk-extra} and {sudo apt install xfonts-way}!)
