Summary: What the Queen asks for, the Queen receives.
It was unusual for Xander to actually worry about a task set forth in front of him. He was the kind of faerie who had seen almost everything, yet life still had a way of throwing things at him. However, he didn’t think it was life doing this to him. It was this town. Ashbourne, so dark and hiding its secrets in every corner, that kept him locked down. The city was a prison, and Xander was far too keen to get out of it. Even the faerielands were stuck in a never ending cage, and for once in his long, long life, he almost wondered if he’d be alive till the end. He’d thought about his idea and plans, for a long while, before he’d actually considered himself ready to take on the task set forth by the queen.
Xander had always considered himself an excellent soldier. Growing up in the ancient world required no less of every man; despite the fact that most weapons had been made of iron, he’d gone to great lengths to make sure there was a healthy amount of his own skill mixed with the skill of his element. Which is why, now that he was over two millennium, Xander had enough confidence to believe that he could truly bring anyone to their knees if he so needed to.
He hadn’t been stupid, however, or reckless. The high priestess was a strong and skilled witch, even at the young age of 34. Magic was deadly in of itself, and Xander knew that he’d probably only be able to take the woman on if he caught her by surprise. It’s why the glamour he’d used had been strong, and he’d slipped invisible sage into her drink.
She’d been alone – strangely enough. The air fae had to travel with her, out of sight and out of mind, in order to catch her in such a seemingly well off position. Her home was warded, and he’d allowed her to nearly get home – almost safe – before appearing in front of her door before she’d had a chance to open it.
“Chairete, Ursula.”
There wouldn’t really be much more time for words, as the woman realized her magic had been blocked by some simple sage.
“The Queen requests an audience, whether you like it or not.”
With that, Xander lifted his hand, drawing the breath right out of Ursula’s lungs. He closed his hand into a fist, watching as darkness overtook Ursula’s gaze, dropping the witch to the ground. She’d live, sure, but for now, she had passed out, and it was time for her to meet the Queen.
who would you align yourself if you could, chernabog?
“ursula. we’re very similar– the pair of us. ambitious. not hindered by a moral compass. and she’s a clever thing with power to match. that sea witch is the only creature i’m careful not to cross.“
