My Life is a Steinbeck Novel and I'm Learning Not to Care

She said "You want me to know how you feel, 

Well I don't want to so keep it to yourself."  I didn't know you could hate me for being so sad

I'm still alone and I guess that makes you glad

You don't wanna know how I feel?

Well you should've thought of that before forgetting that I was real.

I don't hate you, but I sure wish I did

I would've married you, what was I thinking? We're just kids. 

Pennsylvania is now my least favorite state

And when I say it, it tastes as bad as speaking your name

I burned that red bandana that I wore

On the night that we pushed our canoe off the shore

But I'm not bitter, who am I kidding I sure as hell am

I only just threw away your picture, is this what they call becoming a man?

I am learning to cherish the lonely times

The late night drives that no one knows about

Because someday I won't be able to live this way

Someday they'll be someone who cares

That I get up at three o clock in the morning

With no apparent sense of direction

The sadness is there but it's part of my story

My life is a Steinbeck novel and I'm learning not to care

If it takes sadness to make this book worth reading 

Well then I guess it's worth a shot

If it takes sadness to make this ending worth remembering 

Well then I guess I'm okay with that.
