Hope everyone leaves water out for animals (I always have a woodblock in it so any animal could escape if they fell in). It is best to have it year round so they know where water can be found. And when it snows, please care for wildlife by having food for all who need it. they care cold and much of their food is now covered by a blanket of snow and sometimes ice. Thank you for being kind to all of our friends, the animals.

We make suet cakes using fat from cooking and any mixture of bird friendly household additives.  Here I used safflower, crushed pecans, crushed peanuts, corn meal, instant oats and organic sugar. Birds love these winter treats that are packed with protein and provide an enriching activity.  You’ll attract woodpeckers, blue jays, nuthatches, chickadees and finch!

What to do with all this pumkpin goo? We're making cakes for the local birds. They're super easy to make! 1. Melt a block of lard on a low heat in a medium sized pan 2. Add pumpkin scraps slowly, stirring into the melted lard (be careful as the lard can spit) 3. Stir in a seed mix 4. Get some old tea cups and string 5. Cut a piece of string around double the length of the cup and tie a loop at one end 6. Lie the string in the cup so the loop hangs out 7. Carefully pour the mixture into the cup making sure the loop on the string stays out of the mix 8. Leave to harden And thats it! Now your local birds have a tasty meal, just hang it in the garden!
