halfway through my third week of sleep restriction therapy for insomnia!
i still haven’t reached the required level of sleep efficiency (which is sleeping 85% of the time i’m in bed trying to sleep) to start adding minutes to my sleep allowance yet but i’m getting there! the progress after the first few days has been surprisingly linear actually
so my starting/current sleep allowance is five hours per day (which is to say LESS than five hours because you’re counting from the moment you lie down in bed) and that isn’t an adequate amount sleep even for me BUT i’m blown away by how RELIABLY i’ve started falling asleep now, and how HEAVY my sleep is. in the last 14 days i’ve only missed a single night of sleep, do you have any idea how wild that is for me??
first week was HELL (especially the constant headaches); i have to be on temporary sick leave so i don’t cause any lethal fuck-ups at work; i still despair a little at not being able to chill in bed on weekend mornings or sleep in ever again, but decades of severe insomnia is WORSE!! i’m just so relieved to finally be doing this
