Just started watching Vikings Valhalla on netflix and its been such a joy to finally see some more realistic fight scenes. I honestly get tired of the dramatic drawn out fight scenes where nobody really seems to ever be winning, but I can always count on the vikings to say 'hey, your best chance of winning a fight is a good axe to the face, and then we move on.'
And also, I love some acknowledgment that a small, slightly built woman, cannot easily smack down a giant muscular weapon-toting man with ease, like every marvel movie and tv show wants you to believe. It just doesn't make sense and makes it feel unrealistic. I loved seeing that even though Freydis won the fight, she got pretty tossed around by the guy first, and that the only way she was able to kill him, was to get behind him and strangle him, which was not easy for her mind you. It actually felt realistic, and I felt so much more excited and satisfied when she won, because I understood how hard it was. I love the acknowledgment that a woman can win fights, just not by throwing a few punches and flipping a man three times her size. Its time to acknowledge that a woman being strong does not have to look like a man being strong, and we love that.
