Ever since my surgery three years ago where they took out all my female parts and found a teeny tiny bit of early cancer, I’ve had to go in for checkups with the gynecological oncologist, every three months for the first two years, then every six months (I need to make it to five years clean before I don’t have to do it anymore). But I’m not getting any younger, and there isn’t a joint in my body that hasn’t been injured from some accident or another, at least once. So here I am, closing in on 71 in July, and aching like crazy today because let’s face it, those stirrups on the examining table were made for younger women. 🤪. Will I survive? Yes. The exam went just fine. Will I throw a party when I don’t have to do this anymore? Heck yes.
My husband, bless his soul, is a compassionate man. He goes with me every time, then gets me a treat afterward. He had his own woes with prostate cancer back in 2011, and thankfully is clean now. But he's glad he never had to go through the stirrups or pre surgery biopsies that were half an hour of hell (he was there holding my hand for those, too). Pity there are so few guys out there like him.
