It’s a crime that the Genesect, Diancie and Hoopa movies didn’t have their respective prequel specials as part of said movies. They improve them.

Me thinks the Volcanion movie turned out better in no small part because it was fully self-contained.

Coming to think about it, the Mewtwo in Detective Pikachu reminds me a lot of the one from the Genesect movie. It dislikes humans, but is willing to make exceptions and is otherwise benevolent and heroic among pokemon. The only thing missing is the female voice.

Personally I always liked that take on Mewtwo as a character and I'm glad to see it again, I suppose it was mostly controversial at the time for continuity reasons but that's not a problem here.
