Ok so many of you will have seen the #ChallengeAccepted B&W photo challenge going round social media. But how many of you actually know why? The reason this started is due to the high numbers of women being killed over in Turkey each year. Each time a women is killed a black and white picture of them is shown. Often there is no justice for these women. The names I have on here are just some of the women who have been killed this year. They are the reason this campaign started and I want to honour them as well as highlight the reason behind this campaign which I think has been lost. Her name needs to be out there. I for one demand that there is justice for Breonna. She was killed while asleep in bed! Turkish people wake up every day to see a black and white photograph of a woman who has been murdered on their IG feed, newspapers and TV. The black and white photo challenge started as a way for women to raise their voices and stand up in solidarity with the women lost to femicide in Turkey, showing that one day, it could be their b&w picture plastered in news outlets. These messages can get lost like a round of Chinese whispers in these ‘challenges’, so it’s important to know where and why they originated. Showing support here for these women.
