Hey! I haven’t said much about this on here but I’m doing a podcast with some friends. We are taking a look at #GeekCulture through the lense of #Feminism. Come join the conversation where ever you get your podcasts! Is it bad that I honestly don't care about the whole "Blurred lines/Little White Lies" thing. I still love little whites lies. Blurred lines was nasty as fuck and I hate it because it's all about "date" rape. That is what Robyn Thicke was insinuating. IMO Little white lies was nothing about that. Some people took it that way, but I took it as two people who are already fooling around and whatnot because I know the boys would never try to make the song about something so wrong.
And that’s what’s beautiful about music, it’s open to interpretation! Neither of us are correct or incorrect in our analysis of the song. What I saw with Kaya were some problematic lyrics that highlighted ongoing cultural issues.
But just because the lyrics are somewhat questionable (in our interpretation) doesn’t mean the song isn’t a jam. We have the ability to recognize what is happening in these lyrics and be aware of the problems they cause. We can then listen to the song educated about the issues behind it, therefore not allowing rape culture to prevail.
