The good news is there should be a way to grow back the grass that deteriorates with fertilizer, according to Japaneses wikis. So, I don't think the desert towns will end up being the problem they were from CF.
problem is, fertilizer is not something you get right away (it's not until the FULLY UPGRADED mametsubu shop). if you don't know about the grass wear, you could very easily end up with a desert town for an extended period of time before you even have the chance of it showing up to buy.
the reasons mentioned in that post used to act like it's not a problem are stupid regardless though.
