there's a french author doing the exact same thing. everyone is beautiful, etc. when i asked her, she said that it's how she sees the world: beautiful, special people everywhere, ppl deserving crowns and love everywhere. i agree it can be annoying once you notice it, but... why not also have books like that?

I feel like you completely missed the point of my post, which talked more about how SJM doesn’t know how to balance her characters’ powers and constantly writes herself into a corner because she can’t stop herself from making her characters too powerful too fast. 

It’s not a question of how she portrays the world (though I’ll go into that too under the cut), it’s a question of pacing and her skill as a writer.

But to answer your question about why everyone can’t be beautiful etc etc:

Perfection is boring. Flaws is what makes a character feel more human. If you’re into reading things about hot people being cutesy and in love without any problems or conflict, then that’s your deal, but I prefer my characters to be flawed. And you can write a good plot with the theme that everybody deserves love without making it a giant bore-fest. 

But SJM doesn’t write everyone as beautiful. Some characters get to be “plain”, usually characters that don’t matter or that she doesn’t like very much, while her favorites are blessed with superhuman beauty (that they downplay if they’re protags).

And her standards of beauty often fall into the modern western standards of beauty, aka skinny white women and tanned white men with muscles. Nearly every sympathetic character looks like this. 

Compare these two examples: this female character is blonde, white, skinny, has a big ass and big tits but a thin waist, long legs, thick lips, a petite nose and large eyes. She’s beautiful, let’s say.

Now look at this character: she’s brown, dark-haired, has pimples, a big nose, a bit of a unibrow, thick thighs and a big butt but is completely flat-chested, and she’s very short. She’s also beautiful, but you didn’t really picture her that way, did you? Or at least, SJM didn’t. 

SJM doesn’t see the world like everyone is beautiful. Only some people are, the ones that are superior are beautiful, the rest are just plain, or ugly, or get a pitiful “pretty” if they’re lucky. If she were writing characters that were what western society considers to be “ugly” but described them in a beautiful way, like she does her conventionally attractive, important characters, then I’d give her a pass. But she doesn’t. 

And the characters that are beautiful? They’re never just beautiful, they’re THE MOST HOTTEST MOST BANGABLE MOST FUCKABLE MOST JUICIEST MOST BOUNCIEST PIECE OF ASS THAT EVER WALKED THIS GODDAMN EARTH.

It’s also damaging for young girls to read trash that puts value on physical beauty rather than personality and deeds and morals. Do I need to repeat feminism 101 for people to understand this?

Tbh I’m just scared of needles. And the slight possibility of picking up an unsavoury disease. I mean I did my research, the studio I chose has a good rep but there’s still a chance you know?
