“Have you read this article, though?” Cindy kicked her legs against the counter, spinning her laptop around briefly for Steve to see. It wasn’t going to make a difference. The list started with ‘get high in Amsterdam,’ and there was no amount of justification that was going to get her the go ahead. It could be written in the most beautiful prose, with a works cited a mile long, and yet. And yet!
Cindy tried not to think about barreling towards her thirtieth birthday still stuck in the two-thousands, trying to figure out how to be old when she felt like she’d flushed the best ten years of her life down the drain. There wasn’t a list in the world that would fix it, but that wasn’t going to stop her from trying. Maybe getting high in Amsterdam was something she was supposed to do at twenty-five, and maybe she was supposed to space all the items on the list out between twenty-one and thirty, but whoever wrote it hadn’t considered how determined Cindy Moon could be.
“It says ‘no thirty-year-old can consider themselves complete without having experienced the rush of...–’ wait, what is dabbing? Why are we doing it in Central Park?” She squinted at the screen. Great, this really wasn’t making her case. “Hold on, gotta find Urban Dictionary...”
