FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Bristol based design company Fiasco Design are heading up a creative collaboration conference in the fair city of Brizzo. That's 3 Cs so you know its good!
It's called THREAD, and the first gathering happened in a little pub on the 28th Nov 2013, & I was asked to come along to film & edit a short promotional video to summarise the night and advertise the next one.
It was a fairly simple shoot and edit, but it wasn't without it's challenges; light and space. The lighting was low and space was scarce, which limits your creative choices. But hopefully understanding your limitations, enables you to work around them. DSLRs are not great in low lighting, so it was prime lenses all the way, & without much space it all had to be handheld.
But with all that, I'm really happy with the video. It feels close and personal, if a little bit rough around the edges. The camera gets closer and closer to people through the course of the film, hopefully communicating the concept of connection. The music is upbeat and the pacing keeps it all moving along. & the colour grading is quite extreme towards the blues and oranges, another way to make the low light image noise look a little bit more intentional, but actually looks quite stylish.
All in all, not too shabby I reckon. I even managed to sneak in my ole favourite screen wipe!
The guys at Fiasco were also happy with video and were a real pleasure to work with.
Looking forward to the next one.

At Fiasco we recently designed a graphic print to celebrate our love of drawing. It soon spiraled into a whole other project all together. Follow our Tumblr on fiascodesign.tumblr.com to see what people send us and sign up to receive a postcard yourself!
You can also find the print that inspired the project here on the Fiasco website.
I am delighted to say that I have recently started a work placement at the fantastic Fiasco Design in Bristol. You should check out their work and this lovely blog post they have written about me. I am looking forward to getting involved.
