Hello :) This is really early to upload because I know some of you guys have school (lol later peasants) and I don’t wanna hit my post limit again xD Anyway... FEEEEEEEEEEELS OF AN UNGODLY NATURE wow i was up at 8 today i hate life and this may be crap. Enjoy!
Toby POV
Amy tried her best to comfort me, bless her. My angel. But I just kept thinking of the night before. When my love had screamed at me and kicked me and told me she hated me. I felt scarred.
“Baby. Hey, shh.” she whispered. I shook my head as more memories came back. I ended up needing to get away, leaving her sat on the bed as I walked out of the room. She must’ve been so scared, watching me run away from her. But I needed my alone time... and apparently, this was the only time she didn’t understand. Well, obviously. She hadn’t been there, not really. I tensed up as she ran after me and grabbed my shoulder.
“Amy. Leave me alone.” I hissed, trying to be nice as I shrugged away. It didn’t go well - she started sobbing with me, sinking to the floor and grabbing my leg.
“Please don’t leave me!” she wailed pitifully. I grimaced as the guilt came, carefully pulling her off my shin and kneeling down.
“Amy. I will come back and talk to you in a minute. Just give me time to sort myself out.” I tried to explain. She winced as she nodded, sighing and letting me go. “Thanks for understanding, babe.” I managed to choke, just about kissing her cheek before fleeing to the bathroom.
I locked the door and let myself meltdown, trying not to be too loud in case she hurt me, but miserable as hell. Why had she even been drinking? I should’ve been there. We’d been happy and calm, and then I’d gone to see my ex... I shouldn’t have left her alone so quickly. And then I froze. Crap. I’d just left her again.
I tore out of the bathroom, slowing down as I registered that the bedroom door was still closed, and everything was still in the same place. I glared at those stupid bottles, wondering why I’d bought them in the first place as I went to put them in the recycling - but I heard a sniff from the bedroom and abandoned it. Damnit, I shouldn’t have made her cry when she was like this, so... vulnerable.
“I’m sorry. Whatever I did, I... I didn’t mean to.” she muttered sadly, staring at her hands. I sighed, sitting next to her and letting myself cry some more as I gave her a hug.
“It’s okay. I know you didn’t mean...” I muttered when I finished, kissing her softly. She frowned.
“What did I do?” she asked. I grimaced as I tried to think of ways to make it better for her - but she cut me off. “And no, I don’t want you to sugar-coat it. Tell me properly, or not at all.” she sighed. I winced as I played with her hair for something to do... she knew me way too well. And I tried to explain.
“You... I don’t even know where to start. You were under the table when I got in, headbutted it trying to get out... you wouldn’t stop fricking giggling. It scared me, Amy. I’ve never seen you like that before.” I blurted, wondering if I’d been too harsh already as I leaned on her shoulder. Thankfully she just sighed and tried to apologize. “I’m gonna have to get all this out in one go, okay?” I interrupted, pressing a finger to her lips. She nodded sadly, kissing my cheek gently... I hated having to tell her all this.
“I pulled you out from under the table and you basically freaking jumped me. I pushed you off and you tried to flounce away... how’s the nose?” I asked dryly. She frowned, touching it and yelping in pain. I sighed. “You wouldn’t stop laughing even then. I didn’t know if it was broken, there was so much blood... but it’d be just my luck for one of the Audience to be there and I didn’t know if you got violent when you were drunk, and...” I tailed off nonsensically, crying again. She winced.
“I just mopped you up with pretty much all the tissues we had. You kept trying to push me away, slurring that you were okay... I tried to carry you to the bedroom when you stopped bleeding so much, but you were like a toddler. Kicking your legs, laughing... and then when I put you down on the bed and tried to get you undressed, you kept being really... I don’t even know. Saying stuff that you probably didn’t mean, and I didn’t know what to do! I didn’t want to take advantage of you, Amy, but you wouldn’t stop!” I rushed, choking as I started to panic. She patted my back vaguely, distant. Was I being too descriptive? Did she not want to know the details? Oh god, I was getting it all wrong, wasn’t I?
“So... we...?” she asked. I shook my head fiercely. Did she really think I’d do that? I would never take advantage of her, ever.
“No. You got angry with me, but I refused to touch you. And then... well, then the argument started. I say argument. I couldn’t really say much back.” I mumbled, clutching at her top like she’d disappear - or at least get drunk again. I’d missed the real her. The one who loved me.
“Toby... I’m so sorry.” she whispered, starting to cry. I felt terrible for telling her everything, but all I could do was nod and yawn.
“Why did you drink, anyway?” I asked drowsily... never was the best at all-nighters.
“I felt like cutting again. I needed a distraction.” she sighed. I winced.
“I’m sorry Amy, I’m so, so sorry. I should’ve been there with you, I should’ve helped...” I frowned, angry with myself. She shut me up by kissing me, stroking my face. I relaxed a bit, but not much. Still. She always did calm me down.
“No. Don’t blame this on yourself. It’s my fault, okay?” she smiled weakly, pecking me again. I frowned deeper, but I didn’t have the energy to argue. She nuzzled my nose cutely as I spaced out. “Have you slept at all?” she suddenly asked. I sighed, shaking my head.
“When I got you in bed the sun came up.” I mumbled. She closed her eyes for a second, like she always did when something annoyed her or got her angry or... or made her guilty. Damnit.
“Sleep, baby. I’ll be okay.” she smiled. I was about to obey - but then I remembered everything I’d told myself about leaving her alone and shook my head violently.
“No! I can’t leave you alone, not yet!” I yelled in terror. If I fell asleep, I could wake up and she could be dead, or cutting again, or drunk... I didn’t want to risk it. But obviously, she reassured me, she made me calm and sleepy. I couldn’t fight it.
“Baby, you won’t be leaving me alone. You’ll just be sleeping. If I feel like cutting again, I’ll wake you. I promise.” she smiled. I sighed, knowing she wouldn’t but too tired to say different as I nodded and lay down. She stroked my hair soothingly until I forgot about everything and went to sleep. And that was my first mistake.
I woke up to the sound of giggling. Obviously, I froze up immediately - until the sounds of an XBOX game drifted into my hearing. I relaxed again, nodding off. Second mistake. I should’ve checked on her. I should’ve made sure she was okay.
My phone woke me up a few hours later. It was a text from Lizzie...
If u cn b botherd, Ive gt nother chekup @ 5. Meet me ther.
I groaned, noticing that it was 4:50 already by the time I’d decoded it... god, I’d been tired. Actually, I still was, but I couldn’t just not go to my son’s check-up. I didn’t want to be one of those dads. I got changed quickly, rushing as I brushed my teeth and pulled my shoes on. Amy was sitting on the sofa watching TV. She seemed a bit fidgety maybe, but pretty much normal. I had to risk it.
“Babe? I’ve gotta go to a check-up.” I smiled as I walked to the door. She smiled sweetly as she looked up at me, waving.
“See ya in a bit.” she grinned. I frowned. She seemed way too cheery. I wandered over, using a kiss as an excuse to check her breath - I froze as I tasted alcohol.
“You’ve been drinking.” I sighed, head-butting the couch in frustration. She frowned.
“Uh, no...” she protested, looking confused. I sighed again.
“I can taste Baileys on your breath, Amy.” I spat, trying to be nice but angry with myself for leaving her alone again. She still looked confused... but then she looked up at me, smiling.
“Oh crap, I had one of them cake things. Y’know. Baileys cake. I was hungry. Sorry.” she smiled sheepishly. I sighed in relief, kissing her forehead.
“Sorry too. See ya later.” I murmured, running out. Third mistake. I shouldn’t have taken her word for it. I should’ve checked. But I thought I was going to be late, and Lizzie would go in without me... oh god. I couldn’t let it happen. Obviously, the kid wouldn’t know anything about it, and I couldn’t give a crap what Lizzie thought, but I wanted to be there for it. I was stupid, but I didn’t care right then. I wanted to be there.
She looked shocked when I walked in. Like she expected me to have just stayed at home. I smirked at her as we got let through into the room. Reception were fine with us for the first time, which was a bit of a shock - she started looking nervous, but I thought nothing of it. And then she lay down on the bed, the nurse put the gel stuff on her, and then... a blank screen. We stared. The nurse looked both sympathetic and confused at the same time. I had to break the silence.
“A miscarriage?” I asked. The nurse nodded, tapping at a computer frantically. “At four months?” I asked. The nurse sighed.
“It’s pretty much unheard of. In fact... well, blank screen means no baby at all, really. There was never a baby.” she frowned. “Maybe it’s just the equipment.” she muttered to herself. But I barely noticed. I was staring at Lizzie. And Lizzie was smirking back.
“What have you done?” I growled at her, ignoring the nurse’s shocked expression. Lizzie grinned.
“Did I not tell you about my pregnant twin?” she smiled. I stared. And I launched myself at her.
“What have you done?! Why would you do this?!” I yelled, barely noticing when a bunch of people held me back. It all started to make sense. How we always got stopped at the reception. She’d go to the toilet or go outside for a phone call, come back in and then have a word with people. We’d get let through, and there would be a baby. And I kept thinking of how scared she was when we got let through... she’d really done it, hadn’t she? She’d lied to me.
“Why?!” I screamed at her, sobbing. She smiled.
“To get you. That didn’t work, what with Amy...” she sneered my love’s name, and I struggled against the nurses.
“I love her. More than I could ever love you.” I spat. She smiled.
“I snapped her though, didn’t I?” she murmured. I drooped. Oh my god. Would she really do this just to hurt Amy? “I snapped her tiny little mind. I can’t have you. You can’t have her, not really. She’s insane.” she whispered as the nurses dragged me away. I shook my head weakly. No. No, Amy was okay. She was... she was fine. Right?
I got thrown out and immediately ran to my car, sobbing. Oh god. I was convinced I’d get back and see my baby, my Amy dead on the floor. Lizzie was right. She’d snapped my love. I felt sick.
When I got back, Amy was sitting on the kitchen counter and reading the newspaper. She seemed shocked when I walked in sobbing... but she was the only one I was worried about.
“Holy crap, are you okay?” she asked, running to me. I shook my head, sobbing and collapsing on the couch. And then I spotted the wine bottle on the table. Half-empty.
“You’ve been drinking?!” I yelled. It was worse because I’d expected it, really. She sighed.
“Just a bit...” she whispered. I sighed.
“Amy. I’m done. I can’t deal with you like this.” I grimaced, shoving her away. She gasped.
“No! Toby, please! I can’t live without you! You have to help me, please! I’m begging you!” she whimpered, running after me as I locked myself in our room.
“She’s snapped you! She’s made you insane!” I roared through the door at her. There was silence. “I’m sorry, Amy, but she’s made you sick in the head! There isn’t a baby, there never has been, she swapped with her sister who was actually pregnant for the scans. She lied to me to hurt you, Amy.” I sniffed, collapsing on the bed. She gasped.
“But... Toby, let me in. I need to talk to you, I need to figure something out.” she begged. I sniffed, shaking my head despite the fact she couldn’t see me.
“Baby, I can’t. I’m done with all this.” I sighed, already dropping off.
“Done with me?” she asked timidly. I grimaced as I imagined life without Amy. It’d be so much less painful. There would be less to deal with, less alcohol and less blood in my life. But I’d be miserable. I knew I had to sort something out, but I couldn’t do it yet. I needed more sleep.
“I don’t know.” I replied. She started to say something... but I didn’t hear it. I fell asleep halfway through. Fourth mistake.
Because I woke up an hour or so later, unlocked the door... called her name. She didn’t answer. I couldn’t find her in the living room, or the kitchen. It didn’t scare me that much. Until I pushed the bathroom door open.
She was on the floor. Bleeding, a bottle of vodka in her hand. I stared. I just... I just stared.
