Fighting inactivity and practicing drawing in digital.
Feeling a bit sad as I already miss my clay class.
Good morning. Last Friday was my last clay class, and I won't be able to make clay stuff in proper studio for 3 months. I miss it already so much. Honestly, clay figures became a huge part of my life, I can't describe how distressing I find it. I'll probably try to do something with polymer clay, but it doesn't feel the same way. It's not a dirty way of creating, you don't get your hands all dry, wrinkly and dark with it, you don't have to wear apron and there's no excitement of expecting when will my figure be ready in this 1200 degrees oven. Also, one of the things I also love about my clay lessons is that this class is actually kids class, and usually there's elementary and pre-elementary children. And I love being surrounded by them. They don't know what stress is, so for an hour and a half I can pretend I don't know either. And there's no exams and expectation for my future, no broken dreams and hopes, no pressing thoughts and overthinking. I'll miss that a lot. Looking forward for 3 months to pass so class will start again, K (170602)
Stress Management: Finding Faith In The Middle Of Pressure
Finding Faith means we’re not going to be stressed out today. Today we travel to Nahum 1:7 as we learn how God guides our hearts toward better stress management. Stress management often begins long before a stressful moment arrives. Even so, life pressures still feel heavy at times, and our thoughts can easily pull us into that stressed out spiral. Yet God continues to stand close. Because of…
Finding Faith: Resting In The Peace Of God
Finding Faith means resting in the peace of God today. Today we travel to Philippians 4:7, a verse that reminds us that God’s peace is not like the world’s fragile version of peace. His peace anchors us when life feels chaotic, overwhelming, or uncertain. When our minds run in circles with worry, God’s presence brings stillness. His peace goes deeper than logic and understanding, reaching into…
Stinging Nettles Benefits - Fighting Stress
Okay y’all better hang to your seat bc Mama Yuzu is gonna get her nag on.
Jk, I just had a workshop today that told us some pretty nifty shit on how to deal with stress and god knows we all need more of that in our lives, so here we go.
Gonna cover only a few things I remember since the lecture was one and a half hour and my attention span isn’t the greatest. Things I’m gonna cover are (not in that order):
-Dealing with stress/fear -Irrationality -Reprogramming cells w/ positive thoughts
(I can see you rolling your eyes there. Stop that.)
SO. First is irrationality.
The man told us that bad things or traumatic things are forgotten by your brain to protect you. I mean, if you remembered that falling from a bike was what gave you that nasty concussion, would you touch a bike again? It’s a defence mechanism. But those memories never really go away - they leave an imprint. And there might be a time where you do something little like stub your toe and you just explode. All this emotion comes pouring out, way bigger than the situation warrants.
THAT IS NOT OVERREACTING You’re simply subconsciously remembering a similar event that hurt you, and your emotions are amplified. So if you ever catch yourself thinking “oh, I’m just overreacting”, you’re not. You’ve been hurt before in a similar situation and are remembering that. IT’S NOT A BAD THING TO CRY OVER SOMETHING INSIGNIFICANT.
Next is dealing with stress. And here’s where we get physical. (Not like that.) The guy teaching us taught us a nifty little trick in case you’re stressing or getting scared and here’s how. Humor me and follow my instructions. Cross your ankles. Doesn’t matter in which fashion, as long as it’s comfortable. Do the same with your wrists. Then grab your fingers and either twist your hands against your chest or drop them in your lap, again whichever is most comfortable. This is called the “entire-brain”-position. It causes the energy to flow unhindered and makes your brain halves communicate with each other. Now, focus on something that stresses you out. There has to be something.
Found it? Okay. Close your eyes and focus on it. Don’t fight it, just let it wash over you. Don’t try to steer it, let it do what it wants. Don’t panic, even if it intensifies. Stay like this until the feeling subsides. Breathe out. Open your eyes. Feel better?
You can do this in class too. Just cross your ankles and wrists and drop your hands in your lap. Since your brain is much more in sync, you’re less likely to forget the lecture.
“But Yuzu!”, I hear you say. “That sort of thing doesn’t work for me!”
Next topic ties into that; reprogramming your cells w/ positivity.
You know how people tell you “you should love yourself more!” and “you can do this!” and “you’re loved!” and you just shrug them off with “nah” or just nod going “sure”.
Take on the position I described earlier. Close your eyes and relax. Pick something people have been telling you, like “you’re not a waste of space” (just an example) and repeat it in silence, but from first person. So “I am not a waste of space”. This way, you are reprogramming your cells to believe it because the communcation between your brain halves is hightened and your energy flows freely. It’s called “the power of suggestion”. Also, if you expect that this exercise will fail, it will because again, suggestion.
Don’t expect anything from it. Just try. Give it a shot. It only takes a few moments. You can totally find a few moments to steady yourself.
SO. TL;DR: -IRRATIONALITY IS YOUR BRAIN’S WAY OF DEALING WITH REPRESSED MEMORIES. CRYING OVER SOMETHING SMALL IS YOUR BRAIN LETTING THOSE EMOTIONS OUT. -TO LET GO OF STRESS, YOU FIRST HAVE TO HOLD ON TO IT. RIDE IT OUT BY LETTING IT WASH OVER YOU. THEN LET IT GO. -YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR MINDSET FOR THE BETTER. IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE SESSION, BUT YOU CAN DO IT.
PLEASE TRY THIS EXERCISE. IT CAN REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF YOU GIVE IT A CHANCE.
Tips That Work With Stress
Many people these days are suffering from stress. Many are spending hundreds and even thousands going to therapies or whatever counselling just to learn how to cope with stress. Stress can lead to mental health problems and it can destroy lives.
We can fight stress if we are mentally stable. Always having a positive attitude also helps. Some stressors are just problems that occur any time in our lives. Here are some tips on how to deal with stress:
How to Deal with Stress: 33 Tips That Work
1. One thing at a time.
You’ll feel better and less stressed if you just do one thing at a time. No matter if it is at work, in school or in your private life. This will make it easier to focus and to do a job of higher quality right away. Instead of having to go back several times and polish and rearrange to get the result you want.
If you have to multi-task a few things during your day then set off some time for that. Single-task during most of your day but set off an hour in the afternoon for instance to do all of that multi-tasking stuff in one big swoop.
