Let’s talk building/“massing” phases! 👍 • This is how a proper building phase is done. This is my client Joan, who achieved her best #physique in her 50’s. 98 lbs. in both pictures (she also is just a cool ass woman and rocks the bass in a #heavymetal band) 🤟 • Her build took just about a year. We added about 10% to her starting body weight slowly and methodically over that time. She then decided to do a #figurecompetition , did the necessary cut and “whola”. 👌 • Building #muscle is hard. Certainly physically (and certainly in your 50’s), but more so mentally. Joan wanted to build, but had to overcome a lot of apprehension and worry about the opportunity costs of doing so…namely #gainingweight and putting on a little fat. As a #coach, my job there was to establish expectations, and continually provide support outside of the actual nuts and bolts of the program itself: Reinforcing the message, explaining the process, and just saying “this is going to be well worth it.” 👊 • If you want to #buildmuscle , you have to understand the opportunity costs of doing so (the same can be said for those interested in #fatloss as there is a different set there). You have to have the long term vision and be willing to play a very long game: the #goal is, when you lean back out, you are going to have more muscle at a similar level of #bodyfat. ✔️ • Great physiques are made over years of different phases: building, cutting, maintenance with the goal of eventually getting “the coveted look”. One must understand this and that it takes YEARS to get the desired outcome. 💁♂️ • The best thing that came out of this for Joan, though, was she no longer fears gaining weight and putting away some #food ! Mindset totally shifted. She sees “it’s ok” and has a better body for it! 💯 • And now we are hitting another build again because she’s totally into the muscle building and physique molding process.
