synopsis: Halloween at Hogwarts has always been full of surprises from the talking paintings to the ghosts that roam around the halls to the professors who uses spells for their advantage, by advantage I mean scaring the students.
a supposedly regular day in class turned into something different. why must it be Halloween during this class?
The look on Y/N’s face never changed from the moment she set foot outside the Gryffindor common room. a scowl was present ever since the lady in the painting scared her, after that on her way to class nearly headless nick decided to take a troll on her as well.
as she reached the Defense against the Dark Arts class she noticed the huge difference of the surroundings, the tables and chairs were not where it was usually placed, the black board was gone, and lastly the whole room itself is bigger. Y/N didn’t have a good feeling about what was going to happen in class, she turned around wanting to skip the class but unfortunately a certain blonde Slytherin stopped her from leaving.
“you can’t skip and you know that” Jay said as he held your arm. he looked at you and smirked.
“It’s not like they would notice i’m gone anyway, you big head will cover half o our class to the point our professors won’t see us anymore.” Y/N Said as she pulls her arm off Jay’s grip.
“professor would notice the dumb girl who can barely hold spells when she’s gone. besides today will be very interesting” Jay said as we went in the class while taking his wand out of the pocket of his robes.
“Y/N! DID YOU SEE THE GHOST OF YOUR HOUSE? GODRICK GRYFFINDOR? HE SCARED A BUNCH OF SLYTHRERINS AT THE HALL” You heard you Hufflepuff bestfriend Sunoo scream a few feet away from you.
you shook you head, the scowl was still evident on your face, which turned worst after your encounter with Jay.
Sunoo already knows why you’re scowling so he decided to tone down his excitement. He dragged you to the side of the class where Gryffindors and hufflepuffs stood . Heeseung another Gryffindor smiled at you both, he was the one who keeps on telling you to stop hiding what you can do during DADA class but you still refused “I really hope you show what you got Y/N today is gonna be different” Heeseung said as soon as you stood next to him with Sunoo on your other side.
you looked at him with curiosity, before you could ask what he meant your professor also the headmistress of Hogwarts arrived. Professor McGonagall stood in the middle of the room greeting all of you.
“Happy Halloween everyone, this year we will not have our regular lecture but instead we will be having a brawl. This brawl will determine how ready all of you are in defending yourself once you finally graduate. whoever wins the brawl will have a prize. now who wants to go first? first pair to do the Halloween brawl.”
“ I would like to volunteer Professor” A voice from across the room was heard by the trio, and that voice belong to no other than Jay Park himself.
“Okay Mr. Park, since you volunteered, you may choose your opponent.” Professor McGonagall said as she gestured Jay to come to the middle of the room. As Jay reached the middle of the room he smirked and looked at the side where Gryffindors were found.
“I challenge Y/N from the house of Gryffindor to be my opponent for this brawl” as Y/N’s name left his lips, Heeseung and Sunoo turned to her with worried expressions. they both know that Y/N is avoiding using defensive spells which causes everyone to think she isn’t good at defense.
the whole class broke into whispers as she walked in front of Jay with a bored expression on her face. Professor McGonagall placed her hands on both of their shoulders and told them the rules, which are no unforgivable curses, Disarming spell and the Sectumsempra spell ( Lacerates the target, as if they have been "slashed by a sword." made by Snape) will be used, the brawl ends when the opponent drops their wand on purpose or by accident.
Professor McGonagall counted as they turned their backs against each other then walked 5 steps away from each other. as soon as they heard their professor yell out “Brawl” Y/N immediately turned and casted her first spell againts Jay “ Alarte Ascendare” Which caught everyone in the room surprise as Jay was sent to the air, to Y/N dismay Jay managed to grip on his wand and stood up straight as he landed on the floor.
Jay looked at her and yell out “ Everte Statum” Y/N was thrown backwards she didn’t stood up immediately because she knows as soon as she stands up she would be hit with another spell instead she yelled out her next curse which was Expulso, Causing an explosion near enough to Jay that the force threw him against the wall. She was growing tired and just wanted to end the brawl so she yelled out another spell before Jay gained his composure, as the spell left her lips the tip of her wand lit up and sends Jay back to the floor but this time it was because of the Jelly leg hex called Locomotor Wibbly. Jay looked at Y/N with surprise, Jay pointed his wand to his leg and fixed his jelly legs. he stood up and Y/N saw that he was getting mad already.
the thing is with the both of them, they hate losing.
before Jay could say his spell Y/N yelled out Obscuro, causing a blindfold appearing on Jay’s face. Y/N casted another spell which caused a ring of fire to appear separating the other students and their professor to where they are. “Oppugno” was heard by everyone and suddenly the papers on one of their classmate’s hand flew towards the fire then continued to fly towards Jay. causing Jay to run while gripping on his hand.
as soon as the papers burned and there was nothing left but ashes made by the burning paper that chased Jay, Y/N finally used Petrificus Totalus that binded Jay’s body making him look like soldier at attention, Jay eventually fell and dropped his wand.
the brawl ended with Y/N winning and their professor putting the fire Y/N started around them.
the braw continued but with their other classmates, Y/N stood at the corner of the room avoiding her other classmates that formed a circle again to watch the others.
Jay approached her and asked “How did you learn all those spells? we aren’t even at that level yet”
she turned to him and whispered her answer which wasn’t heard by Jay so he asked her to repeat what she said.
“I grew up hearing stories from our neighbor who was part of the battle of Hogwarts, He taught me.” She said avoiding his eyes.
“But why didn’t you use it during class? like our normal classes?” He asked.
“if i do people would ask how i knew things in advance, i can’t tell them a former death eater taught me Jay. Our neighbor told me not to mention freely that Draco Malfoy himself taught me, people still hates him till this day and he didn’t want me to be hated just like him” She explained finally looking at Jay
Jay looked at her with sad eyes. he didn’t expect that answer coming from her.
He assumed that Gryffindors were all the same, he thought that they want nothing to do with Slytherins especially with former death eaters. he thought she was weak when in reality she was brave enough to keep a secret of a former death eater even if it means her getting called names.
Jay couldn’t find words to say and she noticed it. she heard their professor dismissing everyone which she decided to leave Jay standing there as if they didn’t just talk.
the hall was filled with students rushing to their next class, a hand suddenly held her wrist causing her to stop walking. as she turned she saw Jay again.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for the names i called you before, I didn’t know that you just wanted to hide someone. I judged you quickly because of your House and how you didn’t do anything in class but still managed to pass. i’m sorry that i didn’t figure out that you were more advance than anyone in our class.” He said as he let go of Y/N’s wrist.
She sighed and said “Next time, try to get to know the person first. you’re forgiven” she turned away and started walking again.
She heard him yell out “Noted Y/N, Let’s get to know each other more okay!?” she shook her head as the other students looked at them both with wide eyes. she raised her her hand and showed a thumbs up without looking back because one: she didn’t want to see how many students are looking at them and two: she might be late to Mr. Longbottom’s class and that wouldn’t be okay on her side.
A/N : AYOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT’S YOUR AUTHOR. it’s actually our midterm exams but i really wanted to participate on this year’s 7 days of fright by @enhypenwriters. so instead of scaring you guys with the scary stuff i have in mind, why not go all potter head and give you a Slytherin Jay.
