Crawling Back to You | @fiinalgiirl
"I have to go take care of some business. I'll be back by dinner. I-" he hesitated for a moment, "I'll see you later."
He should have told her that he loved her. He should have crawled back into bed and wrapped his arms back around her. Instead, he pressed a kiss to her forehead and slipped away before she could fully wake. What if she'd asked him to stay? It wasn't worth the risk.
Five years later.
He's clawed his way out of Hell. To her. For her. Part of Val hopes that he won't find Rosie. Maybe she's moved on. Maybe she's even forgotten all about the man who vanished from her life without a goddamn trace. That would be for the best, wouldn't it? Still, the bigger part of him, the selfish part, wants her to have left the porch light on for him.
The door opens and his heart shatters once more. He smiles.
"So, I'm a little late for dinner."
