The door to your shared bedroom creaked open a bit, making you sit up right. “Babe?,” Calum’s voice called out softly while he shut the door, looking at the bed with your tiny figure wrapped in blankets. “Hi, baby,” he smiled at you, his voice tired and sleepy. You couldn’t speak, because you were afraid that your tears were going to overflow. Calum peeled his clothes off and dove straight into the bed, curling up beside you. “Olivia, what’s wrong?,” he asked you, his eyes searching your face for what was up. “I just missed you today, that’s all,” you whispered, your voice cracking while a tear dropped. Calum’s thumb immediately wiped the tear away. “Baby, I’m so sorry I wasn’t with you today. I wanted to come home early, I really did,” he spoke softly. “No, I shouldn’t be crying. You were working so hard, it’s okay,” you started, your tears starting to spill fast.
“Olivia, baby, you shouldn’t be sorry,” Calum said, his voice stern yet soft. “You have every right to cry, babe. I’m your boyfriend, I’m supposed to be there for you, during your ups and downs and everything,” he spoke, while his hand began stroking your hair. “It’s not your fault, it’s mine. I’m so sorry,” Calum said again, and again. His apologies filled your heart, and your tears started to dry up. It was so obvious that Calum was truly sorry about missing out on your special day, and you forgave him for that. You managed to give him a tiny smile. “Babe, stop apologizing and cuddle me already,” you told him with a little giggle, earning a laugh from Calum. “Alright, birthday princess,” he chuckled while wrapping his arms around you, holding you close.
Some time passed and neither of you couldn’t stop talking about everything. It started because you asked Calum how his day went, and then him asking how yours went. Now, you were talking about how cute the dog in the studio was. “I should’ve brought you, babe. You wouldn’t believe how fluffy and tiny it was. And it knew how to shake my hand too, I’ve got loads of photos and videos on my phone,” Calum rambled on and on, making you giggle. It was probably way past the time you were used to sleeping, because a yawn escaped your lips. You blushed, not wanting Calum to think you were getting bored. “Baby, we need to sleep,” he laughed, kissing your nose. “No, just tell me about your writing session and the little dog,” you replied, rubbing your eyes. “Why couldn’t you bring me, again? You never answered that,” you asked him; curious to what he would say.
Calum’s eyes lit up while a smile appeared on his lips. “It’s supposed to be a surprise. I can’t tell you, babe,” he teased. “Calum, I won’t reveal anything to the fans, you know that right? Tell me, please,” you begged him, giving him puppy eyes. He shielded his eyes in response, laughing. “Babe, you know I can’t refuse your puppy eyes,” he whined, peeking through his fingers. You only gave him a grin, and never stopped the puppy eyes. “I wrote you a song, that’s why,” he softly told you, his eyes still shielded. “You what?,” you asked him, your heart bursting with admiration. “Yeah, I sort of wrote you a song… For your birthday. It was meant to be a secret surprise gift,” he shyly said, lowering his hands to see your reaction. You couldn’t contain how flattered and amazed you were. A yawn found it’s way out of your lips again, and you blushed.
“Babe, I really think it’s time to sleep. I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow,” Calum told you, his arms snaking around your waist to pull you closer to him again. You turned so that your back was facing his chest. “But babe,” you whined, not liking the wait. Your boyfriend shushed you, and nuzzled into your hair. “No, we’re going to sleep. Good night, baby. Happy birthday,” he said, his warm breath tickling you before he kissed your neck softly. You sighed in response, “Good night, Calum. I love you.” “I love you too, baby. Go to sleep,” he immediately replied, kissing your neck one last time.
