Hi! Do you have a post that explains how to find my chart ruler? So far I understand that you should look to your ascending and its corresponding planet but afterwards I get really lost about looking on the chart. If possible, can I get a “chart ruler for dummies?” Thank you!
Hey there!! ❤️💕 Ahh it’s nice to hear from you again hello!! ❤️💕 And i do!! ❤️💕
Chart Rulers: (kinda) working on the ASC
That might be a little harder to read.. but here I’ll give everyone a dl? ❤️💕 What we’re trying to do is narrow it down to what’s the Thing in your chart… the Big thing.. and maybe even what/who’s under the chains of command..
Beginner Friendly: Chart Ruler + Final Depositor ⬇️
🚫long post, mostly examples 🚫
So I’ll work through this with examples…there’s two things to keep in mind, first of all - Chart ruler is the planet that rules your chart. It’s literally just that.
Second of all, if we want to find the final depositor, we can do that too.
Your chart ruler is still the planet that rules your chart. You can, however, say ‘my chart ruler is Saturn, it’s in Gemini. But my final depositor is Virgo Mercury’ if it applies.
It’ll make more sense (hopefully) as we go along. But for now!! Let’s start:
Example 1)
Sagittarius ASC
Capricorn Sun
Taurus Moon
Capricorn Mercury
Sagittarius Venus
Virgo Mars
Pisces Saturn
Sagittarius Jupiter
Step 1. I want to always start at the asc sign…. this example has Sagittarius ASC. Which planet rules Sagittarius? Jupiter.
Thus, chart ruler is Jupiter.
It’s THAT easy! Voila! ❤️💕Sometimes things ARE just that simple! ❤️💕 It doesn’t have to be complicated all the time! ❤️💕
Now to find the final depositor for the chart ruler, we start with the chart ruler: Sagittarius Jupiter.
Sagittarius is domicile in Jupiter.
Final depositor is Sagittarius Jupiter.
Sounds super easy and not at all intense! ❤️💕❤️💕 This is the first example because sometimes– things ARE simple and easy! ❤️💕
Something to note now:
You can have a final depositor (1) like the above (where a sign in it’s ruling planet becomes the only depositor) - but you can also have multiple depositor.
For example, if you have Pisces Venus and Libra Jupiter (2). They can be in mutual reception to one another despite not being in domicile positions themselves.
You can also have a loop (3) - like say a Moon in Leo, a Sun in Gemini, a Mercury in Cancer. If it comes down to these three placements, and it continuously loops - these three are considered to be the rulership to the chart. And that’s perfectly valid too.
Anyways, let’s move on to more examples ;; !! ❤️💕 It’ll be a little more complicated, but it’s not un-doable! ❤️💕We can do it! ❤️💕
Example 2)
Gemini ASC
Sagittarius Sun
Capricorn Moon
Sagittarius Mercury
Capricorn Venus
Scorpio Mars
Cancer Jupiter
Capricorn Saturn
So the chart ruler for this one is Mercury. That’s the chart ruler, that’s it.
But if we want to find the final depositor for the ascendant, because we know Sagittarius is detriment in Mercury. Then we go:
Chart Ruler: Sagittarius Mercury (final depositor for the chart ruler: go!)
Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter. This example has Cancer Jupiter.
(*we keep going until we find a domicile)
Cancer is ruled by Moon. This example has Capricorn Moon.
(*Hmm it’s not it. Capricorn is detriment in the Moon. So we keep going some more..)
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. This person has Capricorn Saturn.
Thus, the final depositor is Capricorn Saturn, Capricorn is domicile in Saturn.
Does this make sense? ;; ❤️💕 I guess I’m just trying to flesh this out to be as clear as possible first. Before we move on to other things.
For reference, here are the domiciles for each planets:
Sun - Leo
Moon - Cancer
Mercury - Virgo/Gemini
Venus - Libra/Taurus
Mars - Scorpio/Aries
Jupiter - Pisces/Sagittarius
Saturn - Capricorn/Aquarius
*Because it’s traditional astrology, you might not see Uranus/Neptune/Pluto being used. It makes things easier and is perfectly normal. Don’t worry about it? ❤️💕
So for this person. They can say their chart ruler is Mercury. They can talk about the sign that it’s in, it’s conditions, where it’s placed. The house that it’s in. The chart ruler influences the whole chart, so this mercury (and it’s condition as a detriment) will still be quite affluent over what goes on in their life .
They can also mention that their final depositor for the ascendant is Capricorn Saturn. This is kind of like the dominant, Capricorn Saturn is where the energy’s at. The core-power. You can see it as part of what is holding them up. Which isn’t the same as the chart ruler who’s the one with the title/is in charge. They may show traits of being a Capricorn Saturn dominant as well, since it’s the quality that they’re putting out to do their thing right.
A little Bit More Explanation
*feel free to skip if you don’t like analogies
There’s a difference between the two, although it’s kind of weird for beginners to get maybe? The chart ruler is the lord of the chart. The boss. But that doesn’t mean that the boss is always the one in control if they’re detriment/fall/peregrine.
The boss can sometimes be.. hm, unorganized or bossy but not actually doing the work needed at the capacity it should be at. So you actually have to have like, a good employee that’s running operations. Thus, you can find a final depositor to understand how this entire operation works.
With that company/operation analogy. You can also think of the placements we had to go through to get to the final depositor as being like.. the hierarchy in the company. First you have the boss/chart ruler, then second in command is the one down below it.
So for this example.. we went from Sag Merc to Cancer Jupiter. Cancer Jupiter is second in command. And then on top of that, we have Capricorn Moon. Who’s on top of the final depositor– the employee of the month – in the chains of command.
So you see, it’s kind of like. You have a franchise with several branch managers and leadership positions. But you also need like, someone who actually gets the work and do the work.
When someone mentions X company - it’s gonna be tied to the CEO (at least on websites/‘about’ pages). And then the leadership positions/managers if they want to come in for an interview. Not exactly the staff working in it.
But it’s important to learn about co-workers and working environment as well. Sometimes management can be hell, and that’s why it’s important to speak/get to know those in position and what they do, and what the opinion/consensus are.
Anyways, let’s go back to some more examples?? It’s easier than this.. company analogy oof ❤️💕
Example 3)
Capricorn ASC
Sagittarius Sun
Taurus Moon
Sagittarius Mercury
Sagittarius Venus
Libra Mars
Aries Saturn
Pisces Jupiter
So with this one.. you have Capricorn ASC. The chart ruler is Saturn.
That Saturn is in Aries. Aries is fall in Saturn. So if we want to find a final depositor:
[chart ruler: Aries Saturn] Aries ruler is Mars.
This example has a Libra Mars, Libra is detriment in Mars. So this isn’t it yet.
Libra ruler is Venus.
This example has a Sagittarius Venus, hm let’s keep going..
Sagittarius ruler is Jupiter.
This example has a Pisces Jupiter. OH! there we are! ❤️💕
Finally something in domicile! ❤️💕
Final depositor for the ascendant is Pisces Jupiter. Does this make sense?
There’s basically two things to keep in mind– chart ruler is easy, it’s the planet that the ASC is ruled by.
The final depositor is the one that requires a little more working out. To find the chain of command and where it goes. Sometimes you can have more than 2 domiciles in your chart, so it’s not always a guarantee that we can just pick out where the final depositor is.
In the case of the 2 domiciles - technically the final depositor can be found for the rest of your placements too. It’s the deposition of where everything goes.
Example 5)
Scorpio ASC
Leo Sun
Libra Moon
Leo Mercury
Libra Venus
Libra Mars
Pisces Saturn
Sagittarius Jupiter
This extra example is to show that this person has plenty of domiciles. Leo Sun is domicile, Libra Venus is domicile, Sagittarius Jupiter is domicile.
But their chart ruler is Libra Mars. Which is in detriment. So to find the final depositor for the ascendant:
Scorpio ASC -> Libra Mars -> Libra Venus
Final depositor is for the ascendant, is Libra Venus.
Usually - we can do this for every placements in the chart. If we have one placement that’s domicile - that’s usually where the rest of the chart will lead to as the final depositor. So let’s keep going.
Libra Moon deposits into Libra Venus.
Leo Mercury deposits into Leo Sun
Libra Mars deposits in Libra Venus
Pisces Saturn deposits into Sagittarius Jupiter
Leo Sun, Libra Venus and Sagittarius Jupiter are all sole deposits/deposits into themselves.
Example 5)
So what if you DON’T have domiciles, but you DO have placements exalted and other stuff?
Scorpio ASC
Virgo Sun
Capricorn Moon
Libra Mercury
Leo Venus
Taurus Mars
Libra Jupiter
Sagittarius Saturn
For this example we’re gonna not focus on the ASC for a bit. .
So.. already, we can see that there’s no domicile placements. If we pick a place to start: Virgo Sun -> Libra Mercury -> Leo Venus. These three becomes a continuous loop bc the rulership talks about each other.
Sometimes its more than 3, dont worry. Sometimes it’s 5 planets in a loop, and thats perfectly ok as well.
What about the rest of them? Capricorn Moon -> Sagittarius Saturn -> Libra Jupiter -> Leo Venus, Virgo Sun, Libra Mercury.
Do you see how the three placement becomes the depositor, the ones every placements eventually leads to in terms of rulership?
Taurus Mars -> Leo Venus, Virgo Sun, Libra Mercury.
Libra Jupiter -> Leo Venus, Virgo Sun, Libra Mercury.
Sagittarius Saturn -> Libra Jupiter -> Leo Venus, Virgo Sun, Libra Mercury.
SO!! You can kinda see - the depositor doesn’t always have to be about the chart ruler/ascendant. But in it’s meaning/definition? It’s where everything leads to.
In conclusion:
Don’t discriminate if you have a loop, mutual reception or anything thats not neatly tied in a bow like a domicile placement. Every shape/form of this is good, we’re learning to love ourselves so love yourself. Your chart is beautiful we’re just tryna find ways to understand and work with it.
