My picking habit finally had a practical purpose.
I finally got a computer chair (wasn’t spending much time at my desk so hadn’t been worthwhile until now). Got a used one from a rental place since it’s a nice chair and pretty expensive otherwise. A little banged up but fine after cleaning the dust off.
But the wheels... the wheels had so much hair. Compacted hair, twisted around inside. I’ve probably been listening to too many *profession’s* grossest stories, because I couldn’t even address the wheels without gloves.
Ended up using small pruning scissors to cut the large clumps near the surface and digging those out woth fingers. Then used a small utility knife to slice and saw through the matted hair and cemented dust. Finally used two large sewing needles, courtesy of my late grandmother-in-law, to dig the impacted hair out. There’s still a bit left, but not the half-inch per wheel I started with.
I did try to disassemble the wheels, but wasn’t able to. Even taking two screwdrivers and prying and using WD40 to loosen things up.
Anyway it’s done. And that’s what’s important.
I’ll be getting a proper desk in a couple weeks (yay sales!) to replace the folding table I’ve been using for 7 years. Folding table will join its twin in the craft room.
