I'm pretty sure most of my followers are broke 20-somethings much like myself, and I hate writing this post knowing most of you who read it do not have dollars to spare. But for those of you who do have dollars (or even a single dollar) you can afford to part with: I am struggling financially right now.

The awful health insurance company I was forcibly switched to in July is doing everything they can to make it impossible for me to get the treatments I need, and on top of that, our family car was in a minor accident this week and incurred $3,000 of damage that we can’t afford to fix (which presents a problem especially because of my mobility issues — on days when I need my wheelchair, I can’t go to any of my classes or appointments unless I travel by car, and cabs are prohibitively expensive). Two of my Patreon supporters — my grandfather and my dear friend Becky — very sadly passed away.

I’m grateful that after 30+ rejected applications, it looks like I finally got a job; if it all pans out, I will be selling jam (made by a lovely small company) at the local farmer’s market. However, this is yet to be made official, I wouldn’t start until November, and I would only be working one (possibly two) days a week. I am doing everything I can to earn and save, but making significant progress is not possible with such low independent income. There are things that would be very helpful for me that I just can’t afford, such as an electric wheelchair, a trained service dog, access to out-of-network medical specialists, and hypoallergenic bedding.

More Financial Fuckery

So I guess the thing that REALLY pisses me off is that we NEEDED this place and that's how we were kind of roped into this.

Originally "They're paying less because their apartment is unfinished and they don't have a stove/oven" sounded okay but like.... There is shit wrong with our place too? Like constantly? And we dont have a washer or dryer.... Like.... We have to ask permission and go down and use theirs?

Of course, we've also offered them our kitchen, but they've only needed use of our oven once because they're fucking children who live off of fast food and pizza.... Also, the hot plate and toaster oven they have help in the rare moments that they actually want to cook.... But that's none of my buisness.

(Someone send me a link to that friggin washer with the foot pedal, I would LOVE to never go back into their dumpster of a place)

But what REALLY got me was realizing that they are only paying $400 a month for a two bedroom (Even CRAPPY 2 bedrooms around here are no less than $450-$500 PLUS utilities). Besides that, all they pay is the $60 internet bill. So $460. Split between two people. One of which has a full time $15 an hour job. (Bear with me, I know I'm leaving out groceries, gas for their cars, and all that stuff that makes up The Cost Of Living, but I promise I'm doing this to simplify things and make a point)

We, on the other hand are paying $700 for rent (which we were told was a STEAL for a house in this area.... And it would be..... If we were actually renting the ENTIRE house.... To give some context, our last 3 bedroom was $720 a month, with water included in rent and a landlord who would fix shit if you needed them to), plus ALL the utilities since there are no seperate meters for downstairs.

So, getting to the point; most recently, our gas bill was about $8 (we're not using heat right now), our water bill was about $170, and our fucking electric bill was about $590.

For those of you following along, that is $1468 split between three people.

Verses $460 split between two people.

That means we are paying $489 a person while they pay $230 a person. And that if we need help with the utilities that they also use, we can just fuck off.

We were royally fucked over and you cannot tell me that both my landlord and my family member did not know exactly what they were doing.
